On my Fighter/Mage/Cleric multiclass it seems no matter how high I lvl, I am not given the option to select any mage end game abilities such as improved alacrity, comet etc. I am able to pick the Fighter and Cleric end game abilities (Whirlwind, Globe of Blades, etc.). Any idea as to why this is? To be clear, when in the level up menu, the mage abilities do not show up at all, not even in a greyed out nonclickable form. l am using the following mods: "BG2 & TOB Level 50 Patch & XP Cap Remover by TeamBG", "Bonus & Collector's Edition CD Merchants", and "TOB The Ascension v1.4".

Because in the original game a triple class like F/M/C can't get 9th level spells, so the devs didn't include the option to select mage HLA's.

To "fix" this (and get a totally overpowered triple class), go to your BG2 overide folder, find the file lufmc.2da, open with notepad and edit the column below "icon" full of "GA_SPHLAXX" (or something like that).

Replace a HLA that you don't want (i.e. GA_SPCL902 - deathblow, GA_SPCL903 - greater deathblow, GA_SPCL904 - resist magic) with a mage HLA that you do want (GA_SPWI921 - Improved alacrity, GA_SPWI922 - dragon's breath, GA_SPWI923 - planetar)... or you could do it the lite way and just go with the extra 6, 7 and 8 mage level slots (AP_SPCL928, AP_SPCL929, AP_SPCL930).

Thanks for the reply Polytope. I could not locate the file lufmc.2da in my baldur's gate 2 override folder. I was able to find a file called LUFT0.2da with the column and HLA's you described. I tried replacing a couple of the HLA's as you suggested(replacing deathblow and resist magic with improved alacrity and dragon's breath), being careful to copy them exactly, but after saving the file, closing it, and opening up BG2 I did not see any difference in the level up menu, the same high level abilities are displayed as before I tried to edit the file. I also tried restarting my computer but that didn't help any either. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

LUFT0.2da is actually the HLA choice table for fighter/thieves (these 2da files are acronyms like Level Up Fighter Thief, Level Up Fighter Mage Cleric etc.). You'll probably want to revert those changes if you play a fighter/thief sometime...

If you don't have the LUFMC.2da file in your overide you'll need to get it. I found a copy here, which includes the mage high level abilities.

You'll also need to open the file LUABBR.2da, and for the line FIGHTER_MAGE_CLERIC under the ABBREV column write FMC (this points the game to offer a F/M/C HLA's listed under LUFMC.2da).

LUABBR.2da may not be visible in your override folder (it's a core game file). If it isn't, you'll need to download Near Infinity to edit it.

I'm not sure what I was supposed to do with Near Infinity but it doesn't seem to be necessary, at least so far. Using the copy of lufmc.2da and a googled copy of LUABBR.2da (gemrb.org/iesdp/files/2da/2da_tob/luabbr.htm]Here[/URL]) the level up ability appears to be working as it now displays all choices for fighter, mage and cleric. Thanks again for the help!

Jebus. That's an insanely complicated way of saying "Install the Triple-class HLAs from the G3 Tweak pack"... :)

I think of it as simpler to change a few lines of text than download and install a new mod just for something like this, but anyway, OP's problem appears to be solved.

To each their own, of course. But I think the instructions would have been easier ;).
