Anyway, if you want to keep your new account and transfer old saves, I have transferred all save files from a profile to another via Memory Unit.
Remember, you can't unlock achievements playing with saves that have been created in a different profile (account).
Hope it helps.

Are you sure I can transfer saved games between two different profiles using a memory unit? I have tried to transfer my saved games from my original local account to my newer xbox live account on my hard drive, but I'm blocked from transferring those files. I'm not sure why using a memory unit as a go-between would make any difference. I don't care about unlocking achievements, I just want to be able to use my ME1 character in ME2 using my xbox live profile.

I joined xbox live a couple of years ago (I got my xbox at the end of '07, played in beat Mass Effect under a local account, then joined xbox live in early '08), but I'm pretty sure I did exactly what you are suggesting - I was signed into my old account and selected the option to join xbox live. It would not let me use my local account - I was forced to create a new account for xbox live (perhaps because my local account name, which was just my first name, was already taken). Perhaps a more recent xbox update now allows you to do what you are suggesting, but at the time I couldn't.
Lot of ppl have had the same trouble as you. Now I can't remember exactly the procedure, I'll try to look into it.
EDIT: I found something, take a look here.

If the name is unavailable, you have to go back and rename your offline profile with a different name.
Try until you find an available name.
I did it several times. Are you sure I can transfer saved games between two different profiles using a memory unit?.
My english is bad as hell, I'll try to be clear.
-Sign into your old profile
go to system settings --->Memory --> Hard Drive --> games --> the game --> the game save --> copy--->chose MU
-Remove MU
-Delete the old profile from your HDD
-Insert MU
-Sign into your new profile
go to system settings --->memory--->memory unit--->games --> the game --> the game save --->copy
It's very simple, now you have the game save in the new profile.
Note you have to delete the old profile where the saves came from.
I saved the old profile in the MU, then transferred in another HDD just in case I need it some day, but it is not anymore in this HDD I use.
Yes I know, it's impossible to transfer saves from a profile to another in this way.keptsimplenc wrote...

The only way I know is via MU with the procedure above.

Hi Colonist,
Just to clarify, I have one offline profile that I have been using for the last six months. I tried to use this profile to join LIVE y'day and couldn't because the name has been taken up.
I joined using a brand new profile, and now I can't access my game saves, e.g. Mass Effect 1 from the same HDD and therefore, cannot continue Mass effect 2 with my original mass effect 1 data.
Would I use the Memory Card procedure you have explained to move my game saves to my new profile from my old offline profile?
Regards

If you've created an offline profile on your console and want to keep it, and you've also created a profile at Xbox.com, you essentially have two separate profiles, one on your console and one on Xbox Live. To get your offline profile online with the same gamertag, and with all your achievements intact, you have to get rid of your placeholder Xbox Live profile and supplant it with your offline profile.
The tools for doing this are all on your Xbox 360™ console; you just have to do some shuffling around to make it work.
Note
This procedure does not apply to anyone who is already a member of Xbox Live when they first use Xbox 360. It is only for Xbox 360 users who have built up achievements in offline play and who created a gamer card at Xbox.com before joining Xbox Live.
If you don't want to keep your offline achievements, there's no need to follow this procedure.
1. From either the Xbox Dashboard or the Xbox Guide, call up your gamer profile and select Edit Gamer Profile. Let's say your gamertag (profile name) in both cases is Trixie360.
2. Select Profile Name.
3. Enter a new gamer profile name, say, Trixie361. (Alternatively, you could move your profile as is, without changing its name, to an Xbox 360 Memory Unit for safe keeping. See How to Use Your Xbox 360 Memory Unit for details about moving or deleting an item from your memory unit.)
4. Sign out (X) of the Xbox Dashboard.
5. Go to the Xbox Live area and select the Xbox Live banner, then select Join Xbox Live and follow the on-screen instructions.
6. At the gamertag screen, enter your gamertag, Trixie360. When you see the Gamertag In Use screen, select Recover Gamertag and follow the on-screen instructions. Be sure to keep your Microsoft Passport Network account password and e-mail address handy, and make sure you create a free Xbox Live Silver Membership, since you will probably not keep or use this membership after this procedure.
7. Once you've recovered your online Xbox.com profile for Trixie360 to your console, repeat steps one and two above to change the name of this gamertag to something other than Trixie360, say, Trixie362. (From Edit Gamer Profile, select Gamertag.)
Note
You must redeem Microsoft Points to change a gamertag linked to an Xbox Live membership. If you have no Points you'll have the option to purchase them. For more information, see Account Management FAQ: Microsoft Points.
At this stage you'll have two profiles, neither of which is named for your original gamertag. Trixie360 is now available.
8. Sign out (X) of the Xbox Dashboard.
9. Select Sign In, then select your original (but renamed) profile, Trixie361.
10. Quick like a mouse, before another gamer grabs your now-free gamertag, repeat steps one and two to change the name of Trixie361—with which all your games and achievements are now associated—back to your original gamertag, Trixie360. (If you moved Trixie360 to a memory unit in step three, this would be the time to move it back to your Xbox 360 console, no additional name changing required.)
11. Repeat step five to join Xbox Live using your original gamertag. You will need to provide or create an alternate Passport Network account during signup, as your original account will remain linked to Trixie362.
12. Now you can delete Trixie362 from your console. See How to Use Your Xbox 360 Memory Unit for details about moving or deleting an item from your memory unit.

Now, one thing it does for savegames transferred between profiles in this way is disable achievements (To prevent you from just taking all your friends' savegames made a moment before getting achievements like 100gs game complete ones) however with the game complete saves it is not an issue as ME2 will start a completely new savegame belonging soley to you, all it will do is retrieve your old save's decisions for use in the new game.
