What I find ironic is the fact that on the forums (at least the old one), there have been lots of threads asking for fem!Shep videos and information because of the canon male!Shep that has been shoved down all our throats since the start of the marketing campeign. I just wish that the Bioware team could have followed through for all of us fans who prefer fem!Shep over man!Shep. :?

I agree.  Vanderloo!Shep gets boring and annoying, especially considering he acts like a total douche 95% of the time.  B)

I second this! Image IPB

Hey, now, that sounds like a rip on us FemShep fans. Why is it that all you Meer fans rip on Hale fans after we express in totally nonaggressive ways that we prefer Hale over Meer? Interesting...:bandit:

One thing, now that I think about it though, is that ME was best heard 2 different ways.

If you wanted a renegade and wanted to hear strong line delivery, male Shep (Meer) was the best choice for the most part.

If you wanted a paragon with strong line delivery, female Shep (Hale) was the best choice there.

I'm planning on running my Fem Shep through first as paragon in ME2, then a male shep paragon.. then Renegade fem Shep then renegade male Shep.

Pretty much how I played ME1 heh.

Well, in this instance, I'd have to agree. He does sound like a douche. But that's because the marketting team feels it's a better strategy to express Shepard as a Renegade. I'm sure he'd sound much different if they were advertising Shepard to be a goody-two-shoes who walks old ladies across the street at busy intersections.

Non aggressive?  Yeah right!  Although I wouldn't necessarily say your tone is aggressive...  More inflammatory.

It's always the same with you people though..

The only shame I see in the whole situation with male sheperd being used as the marketing tool (which I totally understand and don't have anything against.. Brand recognition device are critical in marketing) is that Bioware could have showed off a really admirable female character lead in a game and used that as a marketing device too.

How many games are there that have strong female leads that exhibit a real women (minus the whole space alien fighting stuff, heh)... not our idealized fantasies of women? ... If they're not female leads with a huge partially exposed rack, then it's a scantily clad elf donned in chainmail bikinis or something.

Yet with Mass Effect we have a female lead that could be a real person - a genuine REAL heroine (no, not the drug damnit).

Part of me feels a little sad at this missed opportunity to portray women in a game in such a strong admirable light for once.

Ah well.

I prefer Hale's F. Shep to Meer's M. Shep but not by much since they are nearly equal quality in my book, some lines are better acted by Meer some by Hale, but on the whole they are both good. I think people are just flustered because M. Shep gets a lot more attention in the marketing. This is probably because Bioware's marketing department knows that all us fans will already buy the game and thus most resources are used to market towards the FPS/3PS crowd which leans heavily towards men and most men prefer to play a male character. Thus Hale's and F Shep's role is toned down in marketing.

Jennifer Hale is a voice acting GODDESS. Now, I don't dislike Mark Meer. In fact, I like him just fine, but I could spend hours listening to Jennifer talking. She can read her grocery shopping list off and I'd get that warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

So, yes, Bioware... I agree with Miss Hale. MaleShep is fine and dandy... but he's still a generic looking and sounding space marine lost in a sea of mediocrity. You have arguably the greatest female voice actor in the business working on your game and the best FemShep fans get are a few leaked pics from some guy's cell phone?

For shame.

Well, not sure if Jennifer ever reads these forums, but we love you honey. Keep being amazing.

She's a great voice actress. Her ability to deliver tone and inflection for female sheperd was vastly superior to Mark Meer.

Listen to any emotional or dramatic line delivered in ME1 and Hale's delivery carries actual emotion compared to Meer's.

Not to say Meer is bad... but Hale's talent is so much better.

People keep saying this but there really was no difference between the two. Both of them had times where they did great and other  times where they sounded wooden delivering the lines.

I agree that Bioware should have marketed FemShep more, but lets not turn this into a feminist arguement..

Quite a few FemShep fans list amongst their reasons for playing FemShep the fact that she's a female, and not a male, therefore the story is somehow "better" because of it......although in my estimation, Shepard's gender has very little impact on the story itself.

Now now, arguing about which Shepard voice actor is better is pointless... since Lance Henriksen is so much better than both of them it totally eclipses them both.

She's a really great voice actor. Can't wait to hear her work in ME2.

Edit: Although I won't be playing as femshep at first.
