I keep forgetting that this isn't just an FPS with a set male lead. I don't like the default male!Shep because he's so bland and forgettably attractive. The voice is the same, I think. I know some people like him, but I've never been able to make myself care about a male!Shep I've made enough to finish the game with him.



I sort of wish there'd be at least *one* bit of marketting with a Fem!Shep in it, if only to get away from the fact that, for instance, in the Sy vs Fy videos a large portion seems to be shots of boobs with a voiceover talking about relationships with squadmates. I'm not saying I want a shot of Jason covered in whipped cream, but just an acknowledgement that 'hey, you'll like this game too!' would be nice.



And the whole 'most gamers are men' thing doesn't reall work. Most surveys find about 2/5 gamers are women, and I'm pretty sure that female gamers would be more likely to be following the publicity than your average console boy who wants ME2 for the guns and pixel sex.

My first playthrough was with a female Shepard and she was absolutely fantastic. The character was incredibly engaging, felt real and with a lot of subtlely. More than just a badass marine and so forth. But the fact I love Hale's Shepard does not mean that Mark Meer's performance was bad or flat or whatever.



I agree completely with FlintlockJazz in that both voices were great and very suited for different types of personalities.

I don't know what the fuss is about, Meer is the best male Shepard voice and Hale is the best female shepard voice. I play as both.

For my part, I almost exclusively play Femshep. However, I still think it's the right marketing choice for Bioware to focus on their default Male Shep in advertisements and promotion materials. Really making an icon that sticks in the minds of viewers is easily the most important part of selling titles and my ego won't be hurt just because the way I portray my Shepard is not featured.



The only thing I wish they'd show is a character creation video so I could see if they toned down the giraffe neck thing...
