Replaying ME2 and when you speak to Samara about her Loyalty Mission, she says "She has been going by the name Morinth." Does that mean Morinth isn't her real name? Did I miss something?

She also mentions that there are only 3 Ardat-Yakshi in existence at the time, her daughters. And yet there is a monestary devoted to holding them and all Banshees are supposed to be Ardat-Yakshis. Confusing.

However, in the same game - ME2, the codex states that; "Contrary to popular belief, Ardat-Yakshi are neither extremely rare (around one per cent of asari dwell on the AY spectrum), nor are they all murderers." This simply means the writers had different ideas.

The patriarch on Omega will also mention the monastery. At least, he did on my last playthrough of ME2.

As for the original question, I don't know. But from that Samara says it does seem she had a different birthname.

Yes, some things matter but the names assigned at birth are probably the least important ones,

IIRC it was LotSB that reveals her real name is Mirala. Morinth is just the alias she is going by during the period that Shepard & Samara were hunting her.

I never really bothered to read Samara/Morinth's stuff on the terminals. Weird how Samara never called her by her real name, even when they're speaking face to face.

Maybe it was intentional on Samara's part.

The name Mirala might have reminded her of the child she raised rather than the cold-blooded killer she became. Using Morinth might have been a way to emotionally disconnect so that she could carry out her 'mission.'
