Because he wasn't created by natural means?

Possible. Although Subject Zero is also on cryo when you recruit her. Either way, he sure is made when you wake him up.

The scene where Grunt comes out the tube is where he spears Shepard against the wall and says "Before you die, I want a name"

But Subject Zero is in a tube b/c she's a dangerous prisoner being incarcerated on Purgatory.
The scene with Grunt takes place on the Normandy. Why's Shepard keeping Grunt in a tube? Did he need to take a 'timeout'?

Unless they kidnapped him on Tuchanka but I highly doubt that

It's odd. He's definitely in cryo. I wonder if he was wounded and brought aboard, or if he was in cryo before that point?

Hmm... Seems like it's possible we're dealing with a Krogan that doesn't have the genophage.

I have a feeling it tied to the Genophage.

What does it matter if he doesn't have the genophage? He will just catch it again. Unless they found a way to make him immune. I think he's some sort of expierment done by someone on the krogan. That's why it says he lacks the "honor" of other Krogan's cause he was not raised by krogans.

I thought the Genophage was genetic? O.o

It's because he was a naughty Krogan, and naughty Krogans get frozen.

Two possible reasons
A: It's part of Mordin's genophage quest (supposedly Wrex can help with this too)
B (the one I think): Grunts loyalty achievement is called "battle master." It's likely he's trying to artificially become one. Almost positive he doesn't have biotics on the outset.

Ha, look at that, Grunt in the ice! I think I'm sending him straight to Normandy II chef with a note: "MAKE IT SOMETHING SPICY FOR THE DINNER"

I dunno it could also be his DNA grunt doesn't exactly look like your normal Krogen.

Well that grunt part was interesting, esspecially becasue Shepard is not in an armor. Which means its not a mission video. So he is onboard the normanday.
Also watched part 2 just now,a nd Ahs is in there, being attacked by Collectors. hint hint for other motive for the suicide mission ;o)

Maybe Grunt was seriously injured in a battle and he's in some kind of regeneration chamber.

That is highly unlikely. They said he wasn't the brightest and really just a 'goes in and kill' type of personality.
Perhaps they meant science subject.
It is probably tied to the genophage.

Lets get this out of the way, y'all are stupid if you think that's cryo. He's in a liquid. In one Art of Mass Effect 2 videos there was a few concepts that had a feeding tube as part of his suit. Its more likely that he was either being kept in some kind of suspended stasis, or that the liquid is similar to amniotic fluid. You can see him coughing up liquid, not ice. It's possible he has been genetically bred to be immune to the genophage.
