Isn't this supposed to be random?
I mean otherwise you're setting yourself up for a convenience bias.

Yes, if you get your participants from the social network from a computer videogame company, you're going to get unnaturally high videogame playing times. If you want to include all kinds of people, even non-players, it would be unacceptable

Well it's for gamers. Or just people who play video games in general. My project is to see if there's a difference in the amount of hours being played depending on the person's age or gender.

Ok, number of hours played per week, (for example), would be your dependent variable, and age and gender independent variables. Have you considered using a website like "Surveymonkey" or "Qualtrics"? You can create a survey and post the link here, you'll get more participants. But you have to mention in your reports the number of websites used to recruit people and if it was random or not. In theory, if you only get people form one developer's website, it's quite "limited" in temrs of reliability. If it's a final project and a really improtant grade, check with our professor how many websites would be acceptable and if your method would eb acceptable for what he wants.

It's tricky because in my case it depends on whether I'm super hooked on a game or not (if I'm hooked I give a lot of my free time to the game). It goes from a couple of hours a week (there are games that took me months to finish because I'd play them in intervals of half an hour and not every day) to 20+ hours a week (hello, ME). Female - mid twenties (??).

This is not the only forum I've used to ask people for this data. And my professor doesn't mind where I get my information from as long as I get my data.
@esterula -Thank you for your information. And for the hours, it's just the average amount in the course of a week. And would you mind providing your actual age?

You might want to consider making a poll or some other way of obtaining the information more discreetly. I imagine a lot of people won't want to disclose such personal information directly with their avatar attached so prominently.
You would likely get more information and very likely more accurate information.

Yes, that's why I suggested Qualtrics.com or SurveyMonkey, it's anonymous and free to use. Just trying to help

Yes I understand. It just didn't hurt to try and get data here. And thank you @pablodomi for suggesting those websites, I'll definitely try them
