Can ME4 have a BIT of MMO to it?

*equips his fire shield XXXXXI*

or before I get hit with flamethrowers. I like ME3 MP, but its just that Multiplayer on a map, we extract and that's it!

I would like ME4 to have a quasi mmo social aspect to it. What if you want to hit a bar with the N7's and the Volus you  carried through that Platinum match?
Image IPB
What if you simply want to socialize and *GASP* role-play that particular class/character with others within the Citadel?

Ideally I would like a 'MMo light' feel like DCUO and SWTOR have.. lets face it both are basically single player titles that you can-if you choose to-play with others in. In both titles you can complete the '1-30' alone and both offer the option to join others/have others join you on your mission and also have daily missions (Extractions) and.....

This leads me to my next suggestion. RAIDS! (let me premise this by saying I like the social aspect of raids more so than the 'OMG I GOTZ phat l00tz at the end' of it, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy when I got my first Dragon Drop back while playing DaOC.

....segue to a lounge within the Citadel, some of the N7's are watching a Knicks vs. Chicago game, some are just chilling, others playing pool, target practice what have you... then all hell breaks loose...

A Reeper just landed on Madison Square Garden!

'ooooh snap its ON! I lived 4 blocks away!' -Yells William Rodriguez as he puts on his helmet and runs to the lift

How cool would it be to join a group of, say 10-30, 50! other N7s in an attempt to take down a Reaper!? or a few Reapers! There can be hordes of mooks, LT's Bosses etc, similar to ME3 'waves'

I know that most or some of us have been burnt by MMO's, particularly recently  (cough*SWTOR* cough). I'm not saying completely reinvent the ME3 wheel, its a great game with MP really shining.

I for one would like a it 'more':

- Where do we go when we extract?
- perhaps SEE what that data we uploaded does and how it effects the war effort (or course this is in relation to ME3, but something similar for ME4)
-the ability to roam a planet like SWTOR or a City as in DCUO
- dynamic quests/content that is available as you enter an area

again this is all speculation as we don't know what the story line of ME4 will be, only that it will be 'within the ME universe'

MMOs always have some sort of overarching plot that creates the set up for being strung along between dungeons. MP does not.

The reason why I like the ME3MP is the lack of MMO. Just a straight through mission with different teams, when playing U/U games, and the ability to play with friends if the mood strikes.

I think that both DCUO and SW:TOR aren't exactly the most succesfull projects out there, so when you say you'd like the next ME MP mode to be like them... well, don't expect making friends, I guess.

For the time being we don't know nothing about the next ME. We don't know even the scale of conflicts that would suit the MP mode.

I wouldn't mind having an engaging combat and a 'hub world' where I could role-play a little, but please, keep those 30-50 players raids away from me.

I think it would be great to see MP extended in ME4 with more game modes, and I'm pretty sure it will be.

I don't want it to go PvP under any circumstances. To do so would require all the powers to be balanced in a completely different way and that would prohibit the use of some of them (like Singularity) altogether.

Adding some story elements in, like flashpoints in SWTOR, would be great. I'm not too sure about raids though. Having someones local connection handle that many people would be a disaster and I doubt there will be dedicated servers beyond what we see at the moment.

It was raised in another thread but I think a map editor would be great. People could post their own maps for others to download for private games and then there could be a competition where the highest voted maps get put into the "official" set. I think that would be the best and cheapest way to keep the game supported for a longer period.

I might actually make a new thread for the map editor since the devs are reading the board at the moment.

I think there should be some sort of lobby that's exclusively reserved for Krogan players to headbutt each other before and after a game.

I don't think it would work as well as it sounds. I've toyed around with the idea a lot, like "we just saved this galaxy, how about we live in it now?" But the thing is, looking at you SWTOR, MMO's, at least to me, have a certain detachment from the player, which is something Mass Effect wouldn't work too well with. I mean the immersion and weight of choices you make, make this game great, but you can make choices in many MMOs that don't change things at all, (again looking at you swtor). What i'd like to see, is a stronger Multiplayer tie in to single player. Much more than Galactic readiness. Like how cool would it be, to actually see your MP character on your ship, or be able to command them as part of your squad for a mission or two? Instead of moving the single player to a more MP, i'd say make the MP move towards the single player more. But that's just me.

I agree I didn't use the best MMO's as examples, heck I've always considered DCUO more of a 'large multiplayer than an MMO' or better yet have the next title retain ME3 MP but have some social staging areas or simply areas where people can go hang out.,... Raids would have to be 100% server based no way we can work off of one persons box for 50+ players..

again like most of us I've been turned off of MMO's, heck the ones I play from time to time, SWGEU and DAOC are both on freeshards and not part of the companies they're based off and are GREAT for it.

I agree NO PvP if I want PvP I play-in my opinion-THE best PvP today in DaOC...powers would have to be balanced just for PVE for sure

Remember, that the next ME will use Frostbite 2 (or was it 3?) engine. That means it will be a looker. So don't get your hopes up on the MMO scale you're imagining.

I would rather not see Mass Effect turn to raiding content, personally.

Having an area of the Citadel as a staging area of sorts with shops and various social things would be an interesting idea, although I don't see it as being likely.

GangLok 3, I'm with you.

To quote Arthur Schopenhauer: All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed.Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Whenever BioWare release the next N7 Multiplayer Game and accomplish splendidly, and with the backing of EA & favorable partnerships with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo (and the powers-that-be) they may as well lead the WORLD TREND in MMO.

Because you know, just by playing Mass Effect that already makes you a special person. What other games can claim to be saving the galaxy? (And introducing the Humanity of our era to the Galactic Community)

Viva la N7 Revolucion !

Well, considering most of what you mentioned would be OPTIONAL, I really don't see why not.

I could get behind the lounging thing. I think that could be a fun component. I mean, who DIDN'T enjoy the Citadel DLC? Imagine playing that with someone else. It'd be stupid, but that's kinda the point.

Above all else, consider this: Everyone thought THIS multiplayer would be terrible. BioWare made it happen. If they took this, they could make it happen too.

Edit: I can see what people would mean regarding "taking dev time away from other things", though. If that's your argument, I can agree. But if we're talking about the idea on its own, I think it has potential.

I wouldn't mind a Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst sort of setup, with a hub where you can congregate and chat before launching back into some sort of co-op campaign thing. It would be an interesting way of matchmaking, that's for sure.

Not sure it would be possible or worthwhile, though.
