As to the labeling: In the trailer, Shepard was labeled KIA, while his body was never recovered by the Alliance, as far as we know.
In case you haven't noticed, you aren't alone when the Normandy is getting blown to high hell, and there is somebody with you when you get sucked into space. So, there were witnesses to your death confirming a KIA vs an MIA.

/shrug Shepard was able to sky dive through the vacuum of space, fall through a planet's atmosphere, crash land on the planet's surface, end up as little more than chunks of charred flesh, and still be brought back as the star of ME2. Whose to say Ash and Kadain couldn't make some sort of similar miraculous return?
Except there wouldn't be any remains, since they were in the hot-zone of a 100+ megaton nuclear blast. They would have been instantaneously incinerated into nothing but ash.

Can anyone confirm the blast yield? This is crucial, if it's 20KT than they probably lived. What's the 100+ figure based on?
The large figure is based on the size of the explosion as seen from space. There's no way a warhead with only a 20 kt yield would've looked that big.
I find it surprising that no one has mentioned the possibility that when the geth overrun the position that they could've taken Kaidan/Ashley off-planet as a prisoner. Of course, that's not their MO. More likely, they were killed, put on one of those lovely spikes and *then* blown to hell.

Shaking space is an oversight I'm guessing the developers took. There no medium for the shockwaves to travel through.Harthouse wrote...
It also says on the screen beside it that they were killed. Now I'm not saying that Kaiden or Ash couldn't survive a fusion explosion which shook a ship in space hundreds of kilometres away, but I do sincerely doubt it.
The same thing happened in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The ISS and that astronaut would have been fine.

Looks like the survival odds went up a bit
Once again I have to edit the link because of that ungodly BBCode

The yield is around the same as the Nagasaki Bomb

If they were RIGHT NEXT TO THE BOMB they were obliterated.
If they were in the complex, if they weren't obliterated then they suffered fatal radiation poisoning and would have died very quickly.
Then there is the fallout...

And the description says "was killed".Delta426 wrote...
In the Service History the sacrificial lamb from Virmire is listed under Missing in Action. Which suggests that they are only presumed dead and might have actually survided.
BTW the BBCode on this forum is an infernal pain in the ass

Yeah, sure, they survived what looked like a 100+ megaton nuclear explosion. Did they hide in a lead lined refrigerator?
Oh man I almost spit water all over the screen, what a great moment in Indiana Jones history that was.

You are assuming that the Salarian drive core is powered by a radioactive substance. They never mention nuclear, all Kirrahe says is 20 KT ordinance. If it's an ezo bomb there would be no radioactive fallout.
And you aren't giving the salarian commando/spys any credit, I'd think the would be able to find a way to put some distance between them and the epicenter. Even if you get a mile away from a 20 KT blast you're odds of survival are greatly increased.

Chunks of charred flesh =/= dust at best, more likely gas.

I'll cry if they pull the same twist advent rising used with which ever one you left to die having been saved/enslaved by enemy and now being their leader.
Ah, c'mon, it wasn't a twist you weren't expecting since it happened after the game had supposedly finished. And they hadn't become their leader, they'd become one of what the Seekers were looking for, Humans with the energy manipulation power to convert into some ultra-powerful post human being.
Man, Advent Rising is an awesome and underrated wee gem, with a blood great soundtrack.
I wish we'd got a second game.
