remember the conversation with ashfeld in the bar (citadel dlc). of how galaxy is becoming a smaller place and the walled division among races is slowly fading.
expecting to see galaxy that is no longer divided among races but planets and governments. hmm like starwars.

Yes.
And Civil Wars during this process, which might happen to the Salarians.

The ME books already show that prequels are possible and entertaining. I'd be happy to play through one of them!
possible is a given. Entertaining is an opinion. I am just waiting for redemption to get past the story, which I hope it might, as it is progressing in time.

pre/sequel she can exist "longevity".
vague comment on "some characters may make a return." or short cameo.
a prequel: you'd get a young liara. a sequel: an older liara.
should the idea be scrapped? what about other characters? with longevity wrex could be.

Bioware just make it easy on yourself and canonize a damned ending. People will rage but it will go way eventually
Whatever major things they're doing regarding the ME3 ending, if anything, are pretty secure by now.

1). Rise of Humanity - There are several decades from the First Contact War to the events of ME. They could easily put one game or several in this period. They would have to keep the plot fairly clandestine so it makes sense that you never hear about it in ME, but they could have fun with that.
2). The Missing 2 Years - While Shepard was being rebuilt in the Lazarus project we have a two year time gap that could be used. It has the advantage of opening up the possibility of meeting characters from the trilogy... Which is also the problem because they may have to take ME1 decisions into account. They could probably work around it with something like the Dragon Age Keep. Again, the plot would have to remain fairly secretive.
3). Far Future - They could just create a far future sequel. They could pretty much do whatever they wanted with this provided they chose a canon ending or went the Deus Ex path and say all the endings happened, just not as planned. They would have a lot of options with this one.

Why only far future?

You can use X360 controllers on a PC, that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
The silhouette can be anything really. If you squint your eyes it could even the a turian or a geth
maybe you play as saren?

Why would they move from a trilogy where Shepard's personality, gender and backstory could be largely decided by the player, to a game where the protagonist was a set character that we already know heaps about? Every Bioware game for the past decade or more has featured customisation of the player character as a unique drawcard.
Playing as Saren (or Garrus, or whatever) could be done, but I think it'd be bizarre - so bizarre that it wouldn't be a Mass Effect game. How do you handle choices when the characters have a set personality in later games? Saren also would have no appearance customisation, and (obviously) doesn't give the player the option to use a female character.

I say that all the time but apparently people disagree.
Some people don't value role-playing in the classical D&D sort of sence, where it is imperative for the player to create a shell through which to project themselves into the secondary world of the game.
It seems as though they would be content in playing a sort of interactive movie, where you only take control of a set character instead of being your character.
I'm not saying that's bad, but there are plenty of games out there just like that. It would be a sad day for me if BioWare were to abandon that which I consider to be a primary constituent of their very identity.

But I think once you take away being able to change gender, class or personality type, it's not a Bioware game any more. Playing as Saren means playing with a narrowly-defined worldview, it means playing as a male turian soldier Spectre with a backstory we already know, who responds to situations in predictable ways that the player has no control over. Instead of a blank canvas or cipher we get a really obvious protagonist. I can't think of any good aspects to that.
Given how weird that would be, and how unlikely it seems coming from an RPG company who have *only* made customisable protagonists for ten years or more, I'm a bit perplexed that people keep expecting or asking for player characters like Saren or Garrus. If they did that, it'd be a whole new sort of game.

That's what happens when you lose people's trust. They don't know what to rely on anymore.
It is ridiculous though. Yet, in the back of my mind, I don't put it past them.

I'm gonna go with Mass Effect: Cerberus, or perhaps Mass Effect: Alliance Black Ops.
You start out in Alliance Black Ops, and become one of the first members of Cerberus. Your character rises in rank through the ever growing Cerberus organisation, while gameplay develops throughout the major events of Mass Effect. This way, you start at the first contact war, can be close to the Shep events and end with the demise of Cerberus. Hell, you could even use it to fill in Sheps missing 2 years.
Thats my guess. It's based on Walters continued habit of injecting Cerberus into everything, and my own fear of a prequel.
It also avoids addressing the endings.
