prob they wont, they'll just pull the plug when youre in the middle of your plat solo using level 0 volus with avenger 1

I wonder how a game like this could be in any danger, when say a game like even Gears of War 1 still has plenty of players. Gears 1 is P2P, but how much of the actual server duty is left to MS/Sony and how much to EA Origin? Just makes me wonder why ME3 would not have been built along the same premise as Gears 1, its not like it runs on dedicated.

The article is about social games.
Now, that doesn't mean EA won't shut down Mass Effect servers...
...but if you think Mass Effect 3 multiplayer is a social game, all I have to say is...
....LOLZORROTFLMAO!

I'm fine with them shutting down the servers... if they first release the server software so we can run our own instead.

If that happened to me in that situation, then I'd consider it a mercy killing.
Hope the move went well btw yankee.

I don't think that will happen in years, shutting down the servers to a game that came out last year that still have an active playerbase would be a odd thing to do, things might change when ME4 comes around though.

EA has a list of games they schedule to shut down. ME3MP isn't on that list.

As the player base dwindles, so does the amount of server power required to deal with them. The chances are it won't come all at once, and it'll be at the stage when there are literally ~50 active users per platform... I haven't heard of any company (even EA) shutting down servers where thousands of people still play each day... Of course, having said that it's difficult to gauge how many people are left playing ME3 MP due to there being no lobby browser...
Most of the servers that EA has shut down are for games (yearly update football games, for instance) which were most likely dead within 18 months of release...

Hmmm so there's no way to estimate active player numbers?
Mostly it was N7 day, and seeing how few people on my friends list now play ME3. Theres probably little chance anything will be turned off until ME4, when likelihood jumps dramatically, but EA... One never knows.

Server space is limited, and it's easier to repurpose servers than get new ones.
Server space?! Where what? You mean the space on MY hard drive where I run the game and host it? Origin does its clumsy matchmaking but aside from that do they even use any space to run this aside from the store whose coding could fit on a flash drive from 2005.

Just played a few rounds of Reach, a game that is almost 2 years older than ME3 from a franchise that changed developers and has a newer game out, and not only are the servers still up but they are still doing daily and weekly challenges. EA and Bioware can say this is the norm and that support for a game ends on a schedule but Microsoft and others are still supporting games after 4 years. The MP is my favorite part of ME3 and support for it ending after exactly 1 year despite all the bugs we still have to deal with is the main thing keeping me from getting excited for another ME game.
