Straight forward really. I'm probably taking an SMG if that makes any difference to you.

66644. Throw spammer. Lolcolyte or CSMG or lancer, any decent light weapons really.

The best build is 46664. Durability on tech armour. Warp is specced detonate/expose/pierce (this is the only valid way to spec warp). For throw, go for radius/biotic explosions/force. Full weapon damage and headshots for your passives.
This is the best build because you don't need to take tech armour or fitness beyond rank 4, whereas you must max out both warp and throw. Maxing his passives gives you some decent weapon damage and headshot bonuses. Alternatively, you can max out tech armour and leave fitness at rank 3. I'll let your personal preference dictate your choice here.
Use a geth scanner and cyclonic modulator. I like incendiary ammo on the human sentinel, but you may also use warp rounds.
Weapons: acolyte, lancer, wraith, collector smg, hurricane, or talon. I always use the acolyte (heavy barrel and lightweight mod) and collector smg combo with incendiary ammo.
Have fun while destroying everything.

Has the no-passive build gone out of vogue?

It's in my signature.
I originally used it with an Avenger, but I've tried it with CSMG, Hurricane, Acolyte (which works the best with this particular build) or pretty much any low-weight weapon.

5/6/6/5/4. It gets me the most bang for the buck. Throw on an SMG (BPP or Hurricane) and/or heavy pistol (Talon, Carniflex or Eagle) with Warp ammo and I'm good to go .
To add, I tried the kit with the Scorpion and Incendiary rounds the other day and was amazed at how effective it was. However, the Scorpion sound effects bug the crap out of me after a while.
Eh, here's the build I use for Gold.

I think it have been a full year since the last time I used either of the vanilla human Sentinels. I remember liking them a lot at launch, but they've been buried by power creep.
If I want to go retro and play a simple Warp-Throw bluesplosions game I'd rather use the ol' AA with Stasis and the flash dodge instead of a little more durability and slower cooldowns. But I do have some fond memories of my early Gold games and using the HS because I thought the AA was too squishy...

I could never get my mind around it, personally, but it seemed to be pretty fashionable here at one point. That may have been before people started doing all the math on Fitness, though.

6/6/6/4/4 (fast recharge and incendiary cheese) for one, 6/6/6/0/6 (tanking) for the other. Hurricane and Acolyte for the first, with Incendiary Rounds, and [insert your favorite shottie here] with Warp Rounds for the other.

The Human Sentinel's heavy melee is so quick and mobile that I decided to capitolize on it, and having Tech Armor really helps. Definitely is one of my favorite kits to run, and my personal preference when playing the Human Sentinel.
Here's my favorite way to play it. Primarily as a melee kit, you get in close and use a combination of the twin omniblades and the shotgun (honestly, this part is a preference), while weakening with Warp and setting off Biotic Explosions with Throw when you really shouldn't be too close.

I run a fairly unconventional HS build with tech armor and 2 weapons with excellent results in silver and gold after some experimentation in narida's and kalence's builders. This character is - for me - able to take on any situation with good proficiency.
3/6/6/6/5
falcon and arc pistol
the key is really the falcon, which holds down enemies allowing me to get BEs off of any enemy (even phantoms). Helps me destroy groups of mooks/lieutenants, but more importantly helps the team, because anyone appreciates their enemies served on a silver platter stagger-locked.
the arc pistol provides the best DPS for weight ratio I've found (I must admit my manifest is far from maxed though). Excellent boss killer, even on gold, when there are no other little bastards on the field (which I clear with the falcon and throw). Just have to learn to use soft cover and R hand advantage. I used to favour the talon, but kept getting fingered by banshees when trying to get close enough, so was looking for a longer range alternative. Yes Carnifex/Paladin, but even arc pistol does more damage if charged, and is lighter.
I have a few points in tech armor, which I use only for device objectives and if I have to run out to save a colleague who fell in a bad position.
As this build uses 2 weapons, the cooldown can be a little gimped if the weapons aren't high level enough. My falcon V (with ULM1) and arc pistol VII get me a CD of 97%. I cut warp's recharge to 3s by taking the 6B evolution and structural ergonomics IV. I still have a <2s cooldown on throw, so even if others overload/snap freeze, I can keep throwing to detonate multiple explosions before finishing with my BE :-) Everyone wins.
The build is excellent against cerberus and geth, because of the sneaky bum-rushing phantoms/dragoons/hunters/pyros. As a warp/throw armor-buster, very feasible against reapers (if the annoying ravagers are taken out first) and collectors. Arc pistol really helps in bringing down praetorians from a distance, then ripping its bowels out with BEs.
I like this build over:
- asari adept: whose character training doesn't allow as many weight bonuses to allow me a falcon + something else, and stasis does not stop pyros/dragoons
- turian sentinel: he can strip shields and get tech bursts, ok, but no combat roll, and no built in armor buster. I guess I'm just sore I don't have a saber X like some of you
- human soldier: well, to some extent. Frag grenades are limited, don't do as much dmg as a BE, and can miss (yes yes, L2grenade). Although I must admit that falcon + CS spam is fun!
There is plenty of space for this spec to grow - my weapons and gear aren't maxed out so it's not yet capable of soloing gold. I do realise, however, that people around here aren't too keen on 2 weapons (?inefficient) or a CD <150%. What matters for me is that it has worked well, and has much more room for improvement.

Here we go.
Yeah, I don't bother with the passive.
Blah blah suboptimal blah pissant additive weapon bonus blah.
1-2 Talon shot in the general direction of the face, followed by Throw for a Fire Explosion kills most infantry. Warp + Incendiary cheese + biotic explosions makes short work of bosses.
The passive isn't really going to change anything here, so you're better off taking Fitness so you can take rockets to the face and laugh about it.
Oh yeah, and 1500N Throw to stagger a Gold Banshee. Can switch to Radius if better CC and easier detonation is preferred.
