I like this game too much to not at the very least seek an explanation as to why Bioware stopped development so early and continue to take a back seat.

Meh, N7 day became inconsequential the minute I decided to not play Mass Effect on it.
IF I had managed to run into him, yes.

Pretty much.
The Devs were thanking the fans who were still playing for the support and continued success, which they never expected from the MP component back when it was released.
This wasn't some empty gesture, it was a meaningful thing they did. Remember, they have been assigned to other teams for most of a year. There are no Devs actively in charge of ME 3 support (although I think Chris Schanche and maybe 1 or 2 others still look over MP stuff as a secondary duty.)
There was nothing "underwhelming" or unsuccessful about it, unless you were thinking the odds of running into a Dev were going to be high - which they weren't.
Not sure what people were expecting, but it was announced back 2012, repeatedly, that no Weekend Challenge Banners could be unlocked once the challenge was over, so there was never any reason to believe they would make it available.
And it was announced back in March that there would be no more Weekend Challenges, so I don't know why anyone would have expected that, either.
I wasn't able to participate, personally, but I think they whole thing was a great idea. I didn't expect it, so it felt like a wonderful gesture, and I'm grateful that they took the time to reach out to fans. And, it's clear they appreciated the reciprocation from fans.
This was a good thing, please don't try and turn it into a bad thing.

Honestly, I had never even heard of N7 day until a couple of weeks ago.Zjarcal wrote...
I'm more surprised as to why anyone expected anything big out of a random day dedicated to a franchise whose last game came out nearly 2 years ago.
Or why it being a "success" is important in any level to begin with.

Honestly, I had forgotten about N7 day until I was reminded of it and when I saw it was gonna be done again I was like 'huh, really?", so the fact that anything was done AT ALL was pretty nice.
It's true that they didn't have to do anything, but that would really have been a kick in the teeth of the playerbase. In no part of this thread have I said it was a failure, just that it was an opportunity for something more...

I wasn't around for any of the development stage. All I get is a video of the voice actors thanking us, which is a nice gesture, but just that, a gesture and a teaser for ME4, a game which I may or may not get depending almost entirely on the single player. What did I get?The-Fantasm wrote...
The minute people get something, they complain about how they should have gotten something more. This is why I dislike people. This is also why I disliked balance changes.

They did something, and whether we want to acknowledge it or not, EA/BW went out of their way to try to show the player base their appreciation. I'd say it was a success for them because they were able to give back on N7 Day this late in the life of the game.
I'd also say they did NOT miss an opportunity; if they decided to drop a DLC next week, would you still download it? The answer is yes; you wouldn't skip it out of spite for them not doing it on N7 Day. That's where the opportunity would be for EA/Bioware, if they decided to milk more money out of the players still playing, but that opportunity still exists and will until the servers shut off.
If your theory is that they wanted to do something special for us, the players, then yes, N7 Day would've been the perfect day to surprise us with something.

I guess your happy with the glitchy mess that was never fully repaired that stopped ME3MP from being one of the best multiplayers of all time. I guess you'll also be happy if EA/Bioware half ass ME4 too...Zjarcal wrote...

Why should you have gotten anything? You paid for a game and you played it, you got what you paid for. Expecting things just because is not an outlook that will get you far in life.
Agreed. But the reality for game developers now is that they have to account for a certain sense of entitlement from the fanbase (especially Bioware's). I think they did a good job of tipping the hat to the players without throwing too many resources into a game that is no longer bringing in a significant amount of revenue.
But the things that truly made N7 day a ringing triumph was that Stanford punched Oregon right in the snot-locker all night long.

Very true about it not being a missed opportunity and they did show SOME appreciation, but my opinion is that if they weren't going to take this opportunity to do something, then the day they decide to shut the server down can't be too far away... My theory is as you described it, but with a sense of wondering where the future of multiplayer lies if nothing was done.ClydeInTheShell wrote...

What wouuld have been an adequate amount of appreciation to you? Because I thought the video featuring fan art was a very nice gesture on their part.
When did saying "Thank you!" stop being enough?

As usual, Limbs makes great sense.
I remain very pleased with my ME3 purchase, and with BioWare. I've bought the game on three platforms, spent money on SP DLC's and even a buck or two at the RNG store.
Opportunity-cost wise, it's still some of the best money I've ever spent. The hours I've spent playing, posting here, the friends I've met?
I don't feel short-changed by BioWare.
