So... N7 day... Was it a success or a missed opportunity?

This thread is purely you complaining about how BioWare didn't meet your expectations. Call them what you like, but that's exactly what you had.

Thanks for taking the time out to respond. But I think it speaks volumes that a dev that wasn't even working on the game responds first.
At this point it's confirmation bias on your part. The only thing it "speaks volumes of" that I respond to this thread is that I'm reasonably active on the forums in general, and happened to notice this thread on the main page (since I spend most of my time in the DA forums).
However, with a response like this, I feel my words are being used against my colleagues which is an unfair situation, so I regret speaking up in this thread. I was interested in continuing a discussion, but you seem to be more inclined on making myself and others feel guilty for letting you down, which is a more adversarial way of talking things over rather than collaborative.
Sorry you were let down by what happened. It is what it is at this point and this thread is ceasing to be anything productive.
TL;DR you have a false sense of entitlement and just straight up bitter you didn't join the community sooner.
If it wasn't for my friends, some of which have criticised me on this very thread, but I still respect their opinion and hope this thread changes nothing, I would have probably left a while ago... I even tried to get permabanned a while back.
The funny thing is, I still might leave soon, but I have have too much respect for people on my FL now to leave like a troll and get permabanned. So I'll happily take the back door...

But I genuinely started the thread with the hope that someone would convince me as to why they felt N7 day was a success. But I doubt that's going to happen now and I would have to agree with you that this thread should be locked now, because we're just going in circles at this point. I expected to get a ban anyway for speaking out of turn, but I'm surprised about how many BSNers jumped all over this. I was already pretty fed up of BSN and this thread won't improve my opinion on things...

I respect your opinion David, I do, but I cannot agree with it. I was not pleased with the events of N7 day but BioWare has absolutely no obligation to give us anything, and yet they gave us what they could.
My recommendation? Take a break from BSN. Come back when you miss the people. Sticking around for something that isn't going to happen in the MP forum is tedious and worthless.

I hope that wasn't a dig at me. I've been nothing but civil in this discussion, despite being the minority. But instead, most people complained about me complaining, which I find hilariously ironic. I've tried to respond to posters who have presented valid arguments to me, but this thread is littered with complaints about complaining.

If you sincerely want to know, here it is:
We love this game. Regardless of how we may feel about the single player, most of us in here after nearly two years are here because we are part of a community built around a game we love.
The developers of the game we love spent a year in these very forums with us, cultivating that community. Some of that participation was job-related, but most of it was done on their own time.
They provided information, clarification about mechanics, answered questions about how the game worked, and were an immersed and important part of the community.
As the game's life progressed, their roles were to change after the year's support ended. They were assigned to other teams. With occasional exceptions, their active role in the MP Forum community ended, and for many, their presence was missed for reasons independent of the technical role that they played here.
For those of us who have remained, as part of the Forum community, and the gaming community, it is because we do so as friends who mutually love the game.
We have heard all of your complaints for nearly two years, and we're tired of it. The Developers spent a year working with us to make the game better, more balanced, and more expansive, with DLC that we didn't even have to pay for. They have made this place more positive, and we like that much better.
And then, they participated in an event to celebrate an anniversary and thank those of us still playing the game and maintaining the community after all this time.
And we liked the gesture, and they liked having a welcoming community to make the gesture to.
We all have complaints about the game. Every one of us. But we aren't miserable because of them. We get over it. Most of us are still here because we know what an amazing game, and an amazing community, this is.
So we like what they did, and we're defensive when someone arrogantly suggests that we have to justify our appreciation. We are defensive when someone complains that it's our responsibilty to convince them to like a game that we already love and they are complaining about. We'd rather not. Why should we bother. There are plenty of awesome people here to play with and talk to. We don't have to pay attention to people being negative and taking away from the experience. We could ignore them. We usually should.

Computer hard drive died this morning, so I am basically waiting for Windows 8.1 to download so I can install it. Ill try to address as much as I can.
First off I think it is unresonable to say that it isnt right that Allan is the first to respond, this thread has been up for 12 hours on a saturday. So one you are expecting people to respond on a saturday, well I guess you got 2 people... and not being paid to do it.
Chakram launcher, ill try and put this thing to bed right now. It was never tested for replication, we never did passes to ensure that it work even remotely correctly. It might work, I cant say for certain, but you never know what kind of hidden surprises are up with it.
Playing with the Dev's initially it was supposed to be 2 hours in the office, for people that wanted to drop in (and there were). There was not just people on Xbox, the majority was on PC (it is the easiest for people to use). I infact livestreamed. Lets do a bit of math, if a game last 20minutes (somewhat generous considering everything). that is 3 games per hour per dev. As I said event went 2 hours, that is 6 games per dev. I wont release the numbers of player playing at the moment, as that is confidential information. But using the math I said before that is 18 people that get to play with a dev in that time. Lets go with the incredibly low number of 2000 people playing at a given time. That is 111 devs required to cover that amount of people with no possible overlap. Sorry to say that is just the numbers, there is absolutely no way we could cover everything.
There is an insane amount of complexity/variety for our multiplayer around 60 guns, 65 characters, 4 difficulties, 4 factions, 19 maps. Thats over 1 million combinations just taking into account those factors, nevermind gear, mods, consumables, other players.
It was time for us to take the things we have learned with Mass Effect 3 and apply them to other projects. I have gained a ton, and I do mean a ton from after Mass Effect 3, and I intend to apply that knowledge to future games. It makes sense for me to move onto another project to use that to make those games better dont you think?
Logistically do more releases is a pain, the people who did the post launch stuff are scattered now, or sadly have left the company.
I tried to give what I could when I knew the end was coming ie banner contest, femshep banner, and lodestar.
N7 day was a success for me because it allowed me to reflect and go back and play the MP I love.
P.S. I did a lot of work to ensure machines were setup for the playing with Devs. And a good amount of Dev's did play from home after work.

I expect that the did actually spend quite a bit for this n7 day, making the thank you video, and it probably cost more than they would make from this game now in 6 months.
I enjoyed n7 day. I got my lazy butt of the chair and took gta v out of the disk tray and put me3 in. And I enjoyed playing. And since, I have played me3 more than I have in a month or so.
You came late to the party, if you wanted game development and a grand n7 day, you should have payed full price for the game at release. I feel this thread is just you spoiling for a fight.

I completely understand, but I guess not being there in the first year made a huge difference on my opinion. Sorry if I came off as arrogant, but that's just who I am.
Try to think it from my perspective. I've only been here for a few months and my experience of BSN is a watered down, inferior version of yours. So even though I've met a lot of great people out of this, my opinion of the powers that be is not very high. I still think this is a great community for the most part, but the only Bioware employees I've seen post until recently are to ban and lock threads. So you have to understand why I didn't care about the opportunity to play with them.
But you have given me the answer I was looking for and I thank you for that.
The simple matter of the fact though, is I missed the boat, so I'll never feel as ingrained into the community as you do because I have developed over the years a very negative view of EA...
I came to this forum and started posting because I saw some really great people here and wanted to meet and play with a few of them, because I too love this game. But I have my friends now, so there is very little to keep me on BSN now. Hopefully, I'll miss people round here enough to come back if I do leave, but I guess we'll never feel the same way about this matter. Which is a shame, because I really like your perspective and wish it could be my way of looking at things. But I will always be a cynic...
