Sorry if this has been discussed already, I'm not completely sure it hasn't

CGI trailer next month and 2014 release? doesn't seem likely, does it?

2012 - prototyping, scripting
2013 - alpha builds, initial cinematics

^ That's my guess so far. That's enough for a teaser trailer and announcement, but only to that extent.

(to continue..
2014 - beta builds, voicing, more substantial trailers at most
2015 - near-release builds, final trailers, 'gone gold', working on DLC

2014 release is possible but none of us should be expecting it, but instead that they'll be putting their focus on DA:I during that time.

That's surprising, I was actually expecting an announcement on the story next month, but a trailer is exciting.

Really hope it's a sequel.

Unfortunately 'not a sequel' is already confirmed.

Mac Walters stated in an interview that the next game will have no connection to the 'Shepard events.' That would be an impossibility for a sequel, so it means the next game is either a prequel, alternate universe, or set in the same continuity but in a previously unexplored region of the Mass Effect universe.

Saw a recent interview with good ol' Mac that was uploaded only days ago and according to him, it sounds like there's not even a concrete plot to speak of yet. They have a basic outline, as if a rough sketch, but nothing seems to have been set in stone with the actual story yet.

I really hope we move forward in the timeline but that Shepard and his crew is either only mentioned implicitly or not reflected upon at all.

A prequel would also be good, but I really wish for something to erase that ****ty ending soon. I don't have expectations but it would be so good for the franchise if they could somehow show people how the universe continues afterwards. The ending of ME3 is just a terrible conclusion and it's gonna nag everyone if it stays in your conciousness as "Hey, after this ME Trilogy happens and everything ends like that anyway". I want to erase the memory! :crying:

Of course he would say that.  He's making it up as he goes along.......and all the people working on the game are just blagging it.. because no one has a clue whats going on.    yep.  seems legit.

You know what? All pessimism aside, ME1 and ME2 were both results of Bioware just making things as they went along (ME1 development was a mess according to Final Hours) and guess what. I think most people love ME1 and ME2.

Every game seems to be a bit of an experiment. I'm crossing my fingers they can actually make something pretty good if they just write as they go, but I'm still hoping Mac isn't the guy writing the plot because he can write characters, but his plots ALWAYS involve Cerberus, and I don't even think people want that after ME3.

This is the major issue with the games and if they ever want to make a coherent story they need to stop pulling **** out of their ass and throwing it against the wall to see what sticks.

I'm kinda accepting of that fact though. The day I get tired of the way Bioware makes their games is the day I leave Bioware games behind me and focus on other games.

If you want a solid RPG with a well planned-out plot, you can always play The Witcher. Bioware is gonna need some major restructuring if they're gonna have to switch out all their writers, because let's face it, half of their writers are behind the times for modern gaming. They are beaten by far by the writers at Naughty Dog, Telltale and even The Witcher.

Don't worry, with ME4, people will yell how it s*cks and that ME3 was the best ever.
Same happened during ME2, everybody complained how ME2 didn't have any story and was just about assembling a crew, and how they missed the MAKO.
Next with ME3, people yelled how ME2 was the best, that ME2 had terrible graphics and that the MAKO was undrivable.

So yeah, the same thing will happen again with ME4: ME3 will have been the best, ME2 had lousy graphics and no story, ME1 had even worse graphics and an uncontrollable vehicle.

Their writers have shown they know how to write well. The thing dragging them down are mediocre lead-writers with poor managing skills (Drew and Walters) who have shown they can't manage such a project.

ME2 is the worst game in the series by far, especially when you notice every issue with ME3 is because of it.

For now.
Sooner or later, they will join us

On topic:
Personally, I think the NME will be released on 2015. So I'm sure we'll see it on next year's E3, but if I consider the past, I'll say there's a slight chance of watching a small teaser on this VGAs.

ME3 is a better game than 2 by far. That's when the series finally started to resemble a decent TPS.

And the Mako itself was fine, it's the uncharted worlds that sucked.

Finally someone who doesn't hails ME2 as better than ME3. I am not alone! Wahoo!

BTW, BioWare shouldn't rush ME4, which was ME3's mistake.

I noticed every issue in ME3. I blame all the issue in ME3 on ME3.

No, ME3's mistake was its marketing.

I blame the DEM on ME2, and railroading on Arrival.

Chobot and the Catalyst are entirly on ME3 by itself.
