I think he was always there, just Vega volunteered/was voluntold to fly to mars.Cakcedny wrote...
Wait, there's another question. Since when did we notice that there's a shuttle pilot guy on board? I mean Cortez showed up all of a sudden after Mars mission, no recruitment occured.

ME stories are not written with common sense, scientific understanding, or consistency in mind. They are simply about "feelings."
The sad thing is, the longer I look critically at the series, the more this seems to be the case...

They had to have a reason for Vega to have to go back to the shuttle so Liara could join the squad. Just like they had to give Liara a reason to go back to the Normandy when Garrus joins the squad. In other words, just because.
The funny thing about Liara going back to the Normandy is that she doesn't do anything at all once she gets up there. She's just back in her cabin wondering what's going on while the AI core has a fire going on lol.

Pretty much.
What really bugs in the Surkesh mission is how the **** Cerberus attacked STG secret base on the Salarian HOMEWORLD? I mean salarians had fleets guarding their capital world, STG is supposedly the best intelligence service in the galaxy but TIM's boys got there because ...?
