As far as I can tell (can anyone confirm this?), maiden stage asari (Liara is not even half-way to matron stage yet, assuming she doesn't transition early) cannot bear children. At the very least, I have no knowledge of any any maiden stage asari bearing children.

Matron stage can be triggered early if they meld often with an invidual and lair of the shadow broker atleast gave us a little hint so thats not impossible.

Yes, but according to the codex, the amount of years it could potentially be for an early change is not within the amount needed for Liara to reach matron stage in time to have children with Shepard. She has, what, over 100 more years before she can naturally transition? The number of years she could transition early is a small number. I can't remember the estimation they give, but I remember it being a bit insignificant when compared to the 1,000+ year average lifespan of an asari.

However, I am also curious about said hint in the DLC, but that is not a conversation for these forums since it is a Mass Effect 2 DLC.

Even if she can't bear children, and even without a romance, she delved pretty deeply into Shepard's mind while decoding the visions. It isn't clear what the requirements are for Asari reproduction; if she could retain Shepard's "imprint" (it's unlikely she's melded that way, or that intimately, with anyone else) she could use that to randomize her genetic markers and have a child.

Nothing says she cannot do this, so it's an avenue the writers could take if they wanted a Shepard junior for the books.

I thought asari could store their partners genes or whatever to produce a child later on, maybe that issue will be solved in a cinematic or playable epilogue something like that.

I guess we will have to wait to find out.

Not right now.

But it has occurred to me that, following the opening events of ME2, perhaps Shepard can only have a child with an asari.  (I'd quite dislike this after certain plot events in DA:O, though.)

well maybe at the end of ME3 i would like to see my Shepard holding the hand of his little blue daughter...as a consequence of romancing Liara....that would be a nice "good ending" for me.

Shep having baby at the end of a game would be just unbelievable cheesy.

Because i like the happy endingsImage IPB and having a children is just a possibility it is not mandatory. Don't worry i know it is unlikely.....it is just an hope.
ME will for sure have a non-cliché "good ending" where Shep. will defeat everyone and save the galaxy(it's sarcastic) and a bad ending where Reapers will destroy everthing......now you will be happy?Image IPB aren't those endings a cliché?

I like happy endings too. But I´d rather see sci-fi cliché ending then cheesy romantic movie cliché ending.

Fun idea to imagine that Liara visits Shephard in ME3, saying that she is pregnant with his child. "Shephard, how could you forget, it´s been  38 weeks since... you know"

And then Shephard would die shortly after (somehow...), and the new child would be the new Shephard in ME3. Sure the galaxy can wait 20 years or something, until he is fully mature to take up the task.
Although i doubt that will make a good story line... :-)

Hahahaha.....Ok now this will be bad....but as i stated before it would be just a possbility seeing Shep with his child in the ending sequences of the game after defeating the reapers....i don't see the problem.....well i know it's stupid and i won't comment anymore Image IPB

Hopefully no. I can't really comprehend why so many even like the idea.

It's been two years if she was pregnant she would've had it by now. No babies needed in ME3 thanks.

They would make the game too much of a soap opera. If they were shown as a post credit sequence though, that would be nice.

If you look near the ending of Mass Effect 3. Liara gives shepard a gift, which she joins shepard's conscious with her's and shows him/her Liara's Memory, but it is possible this is the Joining process of melding both generics, not necessarily physical appearance, but the mental. It is like how Liara has either the urge to flaw someones minds (Her Mother) or Butt Heads with someone like (Her Father's Father who was a krogan without a known name). We can't role out the possible that Liara will or won't have a daughter with a mind like shepard, but it is still technically possible she could have a child. We just have to see what Mass Effect's fourth installment will be about and when it will take place. Either a 100 or 500 years into the future, or before Shepard's Trilogy. If it does take place in the future Liara's child could be mention in the game, but will be a supportive character. Bioware has already confirmed that the Main Character the User will not be a Shepard V2.

I think the "gift" Liara gives Shepard at the end of ME3 is the Asari bonding process or whatever you want to call it. Whether you romanced her previously or not. Liara wants herself a little blue Shepard. It's not unusual for an Asari to raise a child alone.

I like Liara, but damn baby. You trying too hard. I'm just glad she finally learned to use contractions.

No

Any Shepard's child is headcannoning.

End. of. story.

Also:

It's possible... Although given that Asari live to well over 1000 years old, and Liara's only 106, your Shepard effectively just slept with the equivalent of a 10 year old girl.

Mull on that for a bit. ;)

Asari biology =/= Human biogoly tenfold
