Anybody thought that maybe the Desire demon may well be a hermaphrodite?

Still, regardless of appearance/ voice I always thought demons/ spirits were genderless

We've seen desire demons who've dealt with more than sex. There was on in the circle tower in DAO that played on a templar's desire for family. Not a wife to lay with, but a wife to cherish and care fore, and children to raise. The whole domestic life style.

The desire demon possessing Connor played on his desire to save his father's life. Caress tempted Isabela of all people with material wealth as opposed to sexual pleasure, and Aveline with the thought of reuniting love.

That's just off the top of my head.

Which makes it all the more strange that they are 100% portrayed sexually, and always female :/

Everyone loves sweets. Perhaps desire demons should resemble giant talking cupcakes.

TEE HEE! I WILL SEE THE LAND OF MORTALS THROUGH YOUR EYES!

I can't resist! It's so cute!

Yeah the scantily clad female fondling herself does nothing for me.

Probably why I prefer the Pride demons. Pride demon in DAO origin > all those lame desire demons we get later.

Same here. May as well name it a "revulsion demon" as far as I'm concerned.

It's a cool idea which would add variety, but I think the DA lore is quite different from the way we imagine the desire demons. AFAIK according to the DA lore, the desire demon isn't 100% about the physical desire (while a succubus is), it's more about the "human" desires - Wealth, power etc. including lust too. If I remember correctly the desire demon can take on any form to appear to the one that is being messed with, so it isn't necessarily female to begin with.

The idea of an androgynous desire demon is actually really neat. I'm disappointed that concept didn't pan out.

Dose the demon need a Gender?

why can't the demon transform into what ever the Humanoid desires most?

That would also be really neat, but difficult to implement in a role-playing game where the player/protagonist's desire could be... well... pretty much anything.

How do you implement that? Do you have a checklist at the beginning of the game that says "What do you like most? Please check one: Men/Women/Gold/Cupcakes?"

Again, the desire demon is not a representation of the player's desire, just the overall desires of mortals. It's a spirit that looked at the dreams of mortals and thought "Hey, you know what a lot of mortals like? Naked women! I should totally shape my form to resemble a horned naked woman! That's a lot better than my other idea of being a giant talking cupcake!" And to be fair, "scantily-dressed female" is a pretty easy visual shorthand for "lust' and "envy."

And remember, it takes a lot of effort just to make and animate one creature model.  In all of DAO and DA2, there have been a grand total of four desire demons who tried to make a deal or converse with the player; the other 90 per cent or so just try to kill you. How much time and resources is worth expending on what is essentially a glorified mook that you are NOT supposed to be lusting after?
