I like my desire demons to be female and sexy. Anything else, I slay.

Sure why not. If they're gonna make some new demon designs they could at least include a big purple co- man.

Imagine the cosplay... Bioware could really start something if they went this way. The art looks pretty cool, I think it'd would be cool if they brought in some more designes for Inquisition or the future games. I don't feel it's something they really have to do, but I think it'd be cool & could bring something new for the fanbase. Like I said cosplay, be funny to see how many more demons show up at events. Could even be a good option for couples to go as desire & incubus.

True. And if there's anything the Bioware devs love to see their fans do, it's cosplay.

The next game should only have male Desire Demons. *nod*

When questioned by male PCs as to why it isn't female, it can just smirk, wink and say, "I think you know..."

Ha! That made me cackle. :P
My male Inquisitor approves.

:D

It'd be worth it both for the truly appreciative fans, the ones who try to march on the forum with torches and pitchforks.

Seriously though, I'm all for masculine desire demons. I always thought it was silly, and a little sad, we've only seen them depicted as females so far.

I don't think incubi are ever really included because it's a little offputting to most men having women being seduced by demons. It's basically magical date rape. Fine for guys though because hey, even magical rape is just another notch on the bedpost.

Also did that incubus have nipple tassels?

And that might be a stereotype/cultural that we need to break. Why is it ok that for men it is another "notch on the bedpost" but actual rape if it were a woman?

In another point of view, imagine the implications if Morrigan were male and the only way to save her and Alistair's life was to sleep with him even if she wasn't interested in him.

I wouldn't mind.
Since I'm all for gender equality, then equal-opportunity shady deals involving sex for both genders!

If they have to redesign the Desire Demon it should be without any clear sex, it should be a mix of both. Completely androgenous. Desire demons are supposed to be perveted demons playing on our desires.

These Daemonettes fit a rough image of my idea. Something as simple as having distinct female features, yet speaking with an obviously male voice might work. Anything to make us feel uneasy around them. You are not supposed to feel attracted to a Desire Demon when you know what it is.

That could really fit. When reading about them and Slaanesh my face remained like  all the time. I'm the only one that thinks of Desire from "The Sandman" when it comes to the fake, mesmerizing appeareance ?

Vampires have had many, many different appearances. Even back in medieval times there were several different ideas as to how a vampire looked. From the czech Upir to the Romanian Strigoi, the Vampire mythos has had many different ideas as to what a Vampire is and looks like. Incidentally Warhammer encompasses all the major ones, in the form of different Vampire bloodlines, from the monstrous Strigoi, to the necrotic Necrachs, to the seductive Lahmias and more... Damn Warhammer rocks....

Well, the Strigoi ( and the female Strigoaică - the "ă" is pronounced like ha, but with a more subtle "h" ) are very different . For exemple there are legend where they are dead bodies that rised from the dead and feed on the LIFE ENERGY of their family members, possibly turning them as well. There are also cases where they are spirits and do the same thing. There are also legends that say that if you step on a piece of ground where a strigoi stepped you will automaticaly forget who and where you are and that you will keep wanterind the world in an amneazic, zombie state until some one calls you by your name. The only way to kill a strigoi is to bring the body out from its grave during day, strike the heart with a wood spike ( I think this is optional ), take it out, and burn it. After that the family members and the ones that are believed to be affected by a stigoi or a strigoaică  must then mix those ashes with fresh water and drink the "potion".

The blood drinking part is just an addition of Bram Stoker that mixed the strigoi mithos with Vlad Țepeș [ known to you as Vlad The Impaler - the Vlad Dracul title is actually his fathers. He was a member of a minor holy knight order known as the Order Of The Dragon - Ordinul Dragonului in romanian. Since the peseants couldn't pronounce for who know for what reaseon that name, they called him Vlad Dracul ( which is the same with diavol or devil in english ) instead of Vlad Dragonul or Vlad Al Dragonulului - Vlad The Dragon or Vlad Of The Dragon. ] and possibly with some elements of the polish similar legends of the strzyga ( I think we've taken legends from one another, considering where pretty close to each other and our historical interactions).

Believe me, I know this s**t, thanks to my grandmother and my general curiosity for legends and mithological creatures, be them from my country or abroad.

If they were going to run with a male counterpart, I'd rather they based him on the god Pan or Satyrs.

The Satyrs were creatures that inhabited woodlands in Greek mythology. They were the companions of the god Pan, as well as companions of Dionysus, god of wine, madness, and ecstasy. As companions of Dionysus they were lovers of wine and women, associated with drunken revelry and uncontrolled lusts. They were especially fond of nymphs (beautiful nature spirits) whom they would often pursue or seek to capture. They were also fond of music, dancing, or any form of merriment, and were often depicted in artwork as playing pipes, cymbals or other musical instruments. The Romans usually depicted them as having the head and torso of a man with a goat's legs and horns, the animal aspect thought to be a physical manifestation of their wild and insatiable appetites.

Assuming DA did introduce some form of male counterpart to the desire demons, I'd make them lesser companions/minions to the female entities in the same way that the satyrs were companions of Dionysus.

Why should they be lesser to the females?

I think he makes  a very good point. Not necesarily lesser than the female looking ones, but more beast like so that they would cover the more animalistic side of desires. It's time the satyrs go back to their roots and stop their Mister Tumnus bravado.

See this Bioware ?! The ladies ( and some of the gents ) want some male demonic lovin' ! ( well that sounds rather charming  )  Who are you to deny them such basic and trivial pleasures  ?

For some, sure. I'm pretty sure it would have the opposite effect for me as long as the male voice was more "male" than "demonic" ;)

Cause an experienced world that seems more internally consistent is generally preferable.

Also perhaps more importantly, you know, opinions ;)

You're right about that. So what's your issue with a male desire demon? Can only men be seduced? Are women not entitled to seduction by horny purple men? Are other men not allowed the same? If the default desire demon was male would you not ask for a female one? Would that be too heteronormative? Does the idea of being crooned to by a big semi-naked purple man just make you uncomfortable?

You don't need to have those kind of preferences to want a little diversity. Besides, let's not forget the female part of the community. Why show them and the guys that have that preference the middle finger ? Be a little more open minded.

Thinking not only at yourself and what you like , but also at what other may want will help you on the long run in ways you can't possibly imagine.

If they remain the same, fine, whatever. We shall move on. All we are proclaiming is a desire for a little more diversity in their design. That is all.

Bioware doesn't need any help on that front. David Gaider is on record as stating that a major focus of his work is cramming as much homosexuality into the Dragon Age games as possible.

Here we go, someone on BSN doesn't conform to the hivemind of the rainbow brigade and the assumptions and insinuation that the person is a homophobe. Do you get up in arms too when people use the word gay to describe something negative?

Folks, is not that hard to figure out that the female form is considered beautiful, even by other chicks. All of these threads about preferences will end up making the game to be one big check list before you start it.

Call him out by all means, but I don't believe the language used was productive. If anything I can easily foresee a little quote pyramid forming that way which ends up with a locked thread.

I'm sure this could be considered a tone argument, but I really do not mean it to be. I don't think the mods look too kindly on slamming people based on their sexual orientation, skin colour or gender identity. Continue what you're doing aside from using those exact words, however. I approve =)
