Isn't it funny how every female protagonist looking good is sexist, but every male protagonist looking good isn't?

Yeah, no. Many male protagonists would in fact be considered "ugly" by our modern, Western standard of beauty, which, even for men, advocates slim, toned physiques with no body hair.

That's like saying Danny Trejo and Johnny Depp must be regarded as equally attractive because they both star in movies.

Woah, woah, woah, woah. Diana Allers was a ****up. The idea wasn't bad but the voice actress was just plain awful. So why exactly is she being blamed? Where's the casting director? The person who makes these decisions? Do you really think some random person can just walk into a Bioware studio and demand to be made a character? What?

Felicia Day on the other hand is an established actress. She has played in dozens of movies and tv series, she has her own (pretty popular) Youtube series thing. Implying she was hired just because she's attractive if just plain rude. She worked to get where she is today, she didn't just bat her eyelashes. And second yes she wrote Tallis, the only way she differs from the other writers in this regard is that she also voiced her and her face was used. Lets punish multi-talented individuals! Do we often hear that Fenris is some unconscious manifestation of Gaider's anger towards the fans? No? Why? Because it's ****ing stupid. She wrote a character. End of story. If the character's execution is what bothers you your vitroil is once again misdirected. If you think the character was written poorly then that's valid criticism too, thinking the character is poorly written because she's voiced and her looks based of off Day that's less valid criticism.

He's sexist because he's an unrealistic and disproportionately muscular example of masculinity. God help us all should videogames ever include idealistic stereotypes of either gender.

I'm not really understanding the question though, what is the problem? The reason miss Chobot failed in my eyes is because she has no experience that I'm aware of in the Voice Acting department and it brought up questionable reasoning for Bioware to hire such a person. I'm okay with characters being portrayed off actors or looking identical, but it depends on the game itself - like Beyond: Two Souls for example, in relation to Ellen Page.

Look at Miranda, I say that is great work done by Bioware and Yvonne Strahovski herself. Plus, a lot of characters have similarities to their in-game look - GTAV for example (Trevor)

And I know this is about females, but as long as the talent is behind the woman (or any person for that matter) doing it, I find they should have no problem justifying their look being portrayed in the game, as long as it works for the game itself.

I think the best way to clarify the question is why should someone want to appear in DAI or any future Dragon Age and appear similar to themselves? Considering that it really did not go too well for two actresses who were doing it. Yvonne Strahovski had a really compelling character, becuase it was written well, the advertising was not terribly over the top in trumpeting her involvement, and Miranda never seemed out of place.

It's just that why would some really awesome actress out there who gets asked to do this game want to appear when she's just as likely to get online attacks as get a really friendly reception from players? I just wanted to get a sampling of the opinions out there - it seems the reaction is a really big controversy over the role of women and women's appearances in video games, so it should be something carefully thought about.

I just think that the negative reaction is so violent and vicious, that most professionals might feel justified to be afraid of jumping into it.

If the character's execution is what bothers you your vitroil is once again misdirected. If you think the character was written poorly then that's valid criticism too, thinking the character is poorly written because she's voiced and her looks based of off Day that's less valid criticism.

You're kidding? Felicia Day plays exactly the same thing in literally everything, except sometimes they give her martial arts skills to add something vaguely substantial to her hackneyed quirky nerdy girl personality trope she always has. She's just a nerd's wet dream and plays on that ruthlessly.

Jessica Chobot essentially retired from electronic media because of the nearly endless vitrolic assault from fans who decided that it was her fault that they didn't like Diana Allers. (Is it really her fault that the Chobot character was written like that? She didn't write it herself)
Felicia Day's character, Tallis, is routinely lambasted by fans of Dragon Age here on this forum because people don't like how she threatened their Hawke, shoehorned herself into the plot. (I feel that's a little unfair because they were trying to get Redemption fans into coming over to Dragon Age II, and that story didn't necessarilly lead to Dragon Age 2, that story was started independently of Bioware and then they tried to mash it together, with mixed success)

My question is, oh forum watching fans, can you give any reason why a woman who's interesting in appearing in the video game industry would want their visage in Inquisition or any future Bioware game?

Miranda Lawson, Ashley Williams though in the case of Ash the model for her look isn't the same person as her voice actress. Regardless the women you mentioned have their fans who like them regardless just like there are those who disliked their performance or character that was visually based on them. You can't have everyone like you or your work, there will always be critics, if Jessica Chobot gave up on potentially appearing in any other game as herself or just using her face model then it's all on her. Actors have to have thick skin because they are putting themselves out their to be judged by the public, it comes with the turf. You can't hack it, then get the **** out. 

Now personally the way I recall it Chobot was only a sensation because of a few stunts she pulled for truly whacked out gamer freaks, who though her licking a ps vita screen was sexy. If that is your claim to fame, along with being a hostess who read scripts about the video games gamers love then really you have no one else to blame but yourself for however bad your career turns out to be. Gamers are fickled, deal with it. As far as Felicia Day is concerned I didn't even know who she was until people linked her to the character that was suppose to appear in the DLC for DA2 based on a web series. I heard she's a real acttress and im happy for her success i guess but again, she took it upon herself to provide a voice and some what face for a character that essentially was a mary sue, guess how that turned out? Yup, many fans didn't like her, big surprise there but when you consider how many fans didn't like the appearance of Elves in DA2, or the fact that this character pretty much gets her way no matter what you do, I can't see why people wouldn't have some issues with her.

I always found people reaction and subsequent attack on Jessica Chobot to be uncalled for, she was a relatively minuscule character in the grand scheme of thing with very few line but people still felt the need tear her down unjustly

I'm amazed Day was able to handle better since she got just as bad if not worst. These are people put in the game and often time made optional inclusion with little more than extended cameos

I enjoyed MotA because it game a little insight on Orlesian society and customs along with humor but also because it was a seperate story that I could play or ignore. Giving people the option to choose if they want to talk or meet these people is what should matter not what they look like and being pissed because seeing a real life person is an attack on your immersion

I say do this more Bioware

I dont think I like forums like this, but I think people usually focus making a male character cool and just strong and whatever thing people think is a hero ish thing to be that just happens to be attractive

With a female character they go out of their way more to just make them just attractive and maybe for it to "make sense"... as opposed to Awesome looking and just by happenstance be attractive to people.

I'd rather they just made women in games frumpy and normal looking rather than hyper sexualised to appeal to men, or hyper girly to appeal to girls. Gimme someone that looks like she genuinely could smack some dweebs around, not someone like Leliana or Tallis who are sexist representations of women.
