No, just a step to control population. The final evolution is 99% population being clones of one guy.

The only DA game I would even think would have a chance against The Witcher 3 is DA:O, because after DA2, I don't trust BioWare to make another good DA game (or game in general really, but I did like TOR kinda), and DA:I would have to be really good for me to even consider it TW's equal.

And I think they should be compared, they're some of the only major AAA CRPGs released next year.

They're not really competing for my dollars at least. DOI is going to let me have a female protagonist while the Witcher 3 isn't going to so DOI wins my money. Now if they both allowed for a female protagonist they'd be competing to see what one is bought on week one and what one has to lower its price first.

I'm definitely buying Witcher 3. I'm firmly in that camp.

However, my decision to buy DAI will be based on the opinions of people I trust. I'm on the fence about it.

Witcher 3 is much more ambitious this time around. I followed Witcher 2 from it's start and it wasn't what i expected it to be. I'm hopeful Witcher 3 will be better but not to say i'm not in doubt. As CDPR first attempt onto open-world. The best open-world games i've played thus far is Assassin's Creed 2 and Farcry 3. It would be great if they take ideas from these games.

On DAI it's not an open world game. seeing the quality of Dragon Age 2 i'm not in doubt Bioware will fail us again. I had hope for an open world game but perhaps Dragon Age 4 i think.

not DAI related.
Thread should be closed.
And no since it's not on the PS3.
I admit I am perplexed why CDProjekt isn't /hasn't done more to make their games playstation compatible .
Makes no sense imo.

The cell architecture of the PS3 and the potential difficulty in marketing a Polish-made, Western-style RPG to Eastern audiences. The guys at CDPR also come from a strong PC background.

The PS4 does not have a cell architecture, which explains why Witcher 3 is being developed for it.

Geralt isn't gay and CD Projekt Red is an eastern European developer, where being seen as gay or called gay is considered an insult. Hell it's even considered an insult in western European countries too. So not gonna happen.

Slightly off topic, but still on the Witcher....

Is there a reason to support Iorveth over Roche before the assassin kidnaps Triss?

Iorveths path is more for those who want equality for the other races and its at least less depressing than Roche path.

I meant for "at the time" we make the choice. Is there a logical reason ultimately at that moment in time?

we'll see what the mods say.
shrugs.
I'm not complaining.
Never played the Witcher, but might get it once my pc is out of the shop.
Enjoyed the few youtube videos I've watched, and yes it was Triss, or whatevuh her her name is. rolls eyes.
Don't recall when Project Eternity is due out, but expect it'll have a big draw for pc players.

As backward as this sounds, I'm basing my opinion of whether to buy TW3 or DA:I on the opinions of people I DON'T trust. If certain people love or hate the game for X or Y reasons (for which I'd conversely and inversely love and/or hate it), I may buy it or not. It won't be the determining factor, but what certain people like or don't like about these games will seriously affect my own expectations, since my tastes will be polar opposite.

People can buy both games. It's not (always) I'm going to get Witcher 3 instead of Dragon Age Inquisition. Also a lot of people like the customization of Dragon Age compared to playing Geralt. I probably won't be buying Witcher 3 because I think Witcher games are kind of male chauvanistic, also I like playing a female whenever possible.

I think, I will buy both. Witcher 3 is pre-order and DA:I maybe after release, if it isn't such a low quality crap product like DA2, otherwise I will wait until the price drops.

Yeah, this. Since CD Projekt RED doesn't seem to want my money, then they aren't going to get it. Plus, open world really isn't someting I am usually into (AC games being the exception), so I can't say that TW3 looks like something I might wanna pick up. Not to mention that I have absolutely hated some aspects of both TW1 and TW2, which are likely not going away. Basically the whole franchise would have to change dramatically for me to become interested, so it's not competing with DAI when it comes to my money (since there'd have to be a dramatical shift in the opposite direction for me to take the DAI off my Must-Buy list).

Actually the saddest thing is that as a female gamer, there are precious few games that make any effort to try and include me or compete for my disposable income. I might not have much money ATM, but just a cool female NPC / PC / Generally non-dudebro -ish ad campaign would put many games relatively high on a very short list. Game companies (EA's marketing department in particular): please take note.

But I know that in many players' minds the two franchises are competing, since both are dark fantasy RPG games and both are about to release their third installment, so I guess I kinda see why they're framed that way in conversations and even gaming media. Must be nice having so many games with identifiable characters and with so few other narrative / genre differences you can actually choose without feeling like you have missed someting potentially interesting / amazing.

Bitter, moi? Sorry about the rant

Buying both they are completely different types of rpgs. Crafting systems, combat, storytelling methods are done very differently. Witcher storypath is based more around choosing a certain action rather than dialogue. Combat has no pause and is based around reaction to enemies and their weaknesses rather then tactics beforehand like dragon age.

Funny thing, my perspective is 100% the opposite.

I got halfway through the Witcher (the first one) and lost interest. I'll almost certainly go back and finish it, and it looks like I can get the complete Witcher 2 bundled with all its DLC pretty cheap now on Steam, so I'll get that eventually. What playing the Witcher made me do, humorously enough, was to go back and play DA:O again.

Clearly your mileage varies, but I found the characters and story in the Witcher to be pretty shallow compared to the Dragon Age games. Now, I really had some doubt a year ago because of the way Awakening and ][ had been rushed out the door with all of their resulting flaws and limitations, but when the release window for Inquisition was pushed back a year and I percieved a commitment to get this done right instead of getting it done fast, I started to feel pretty good about it. I haven't been disapointed by a BioWare game that was properly developed. The two biggest let-downs have been Awakening and ME3, both of which were rushed out the door, and while I enjoyed DA2, I think we all know that too many corners were cut for the sake of the release date.

Had Inquisition been released for the holiday season this year, I would probably have waited for the price to drop and bought the "ultimate" edition for $20 after a year or more, which is what I'll probably do with the Witcher 3. Now, I'm planning to pre-order Inquisition--the collector's edition or signature edition or whatever they call it.

No, after TW 2, CDPR has proven itself to be the better story teller when dealing with the geo political conflicts in their game and the branching narrative, antagonists are not carpet chewing crazies and there isn't a forced dichotomy of right and wrong. If TW3 continues that line and improves then it'll be great.

DA2 was a trainwreck, so my trust in DA3's delivery is limited at best.
