I just want to commend you, OP. This has never been done before. Comparing Dragon Age and The Witcher! Well done! How unique.

This wonderfully expresses one of my major problems with the Witcher games. Geralt likes these people, I do not. Geralt has history with these people and I do not. I played all through the Witcher 2 hoping to find a connection that would make me care about the world and it's plight, this discussion has made me realize that I have no such connection, so thank you for that. Looking back on it, the only reason I was going to play TW3, was the monster hunting, and open world nature of the game and since I honestly don't know if that will be enough for me, I will wait for a price drop before picking up TW3.9TailsFox wrote...

Unless Geralt of Rivia is suddenly down with the man-love, then there's no comparison as far as I'm concerned.
Sorry Geralt have only one love Yennefer.
I mean next year I have Torment: Tides of Numenera, Project Eternity an DA:I coming out so I am good for RPGs.
Read the books.

Lol, seriously? Have you not been here for the last year when these threads were deliberately made as flamebait?

I got The Witcher 1 almost 2 years ago, but I didn't do much with it. I thought the world looked ugly, Geralt seemed boring and the gameplay wasn't really interesting. Last year, I bought the enhanced edition of The Witcher 2 because it was on a steam sale. It looked good and I heard some interesting things about it. After playing it a few hours it got to the point where it became interesting. The world looked marvelous, the plot developed itself really well and there were some nice twists here and there. The story branched wonderfully in the second act and my choices really mattered.
However, I've only played it once and won't do it again. Because I don't connect (visually or emotionally) to Geralt. While the characters he got involved with, were well written plotwise, they still feel like they didn't connect with Geralt as well. Both the Warden and Hawke did connect with me. I become the main character, I'm not just playing someone's tale. Being able to create a character, give him/her a certain look, makes it way more accessible. Interacting with memorable characters and even getting romanticly involved with a character I find interesting. Not because I have to or the game pushes me in that direction, but simply because that one stands out. It gives more identity to the game, while The Witcher has more of a set identity. One you can't do much about it and some might prefer that, but I want to decide who my character will become.
That said, that doesn't mean I don't play or like games who have a set protagonist. I'll still enjoy the game if it's good, but there is less of a connection with the universe it's set in, because I haven't 'lived' in it.
I have two must-buys for next year: Elder Scrolls Online and Dragon Age Inquisition. Everything expect that will depend on more variables.

Last year I was kind of thinking that the flow of good games would slow down and I'd eventually be able to put away this hobby. But it hasn't stopped. So many fantastic games coming down the pipe.

Big budget RPGs dont grow in trees so I'll be loving both. I game for fun without pining away for the baggage of the 'real world' to be beating me over the head as I do it.
This.
I love both franchises, will buy both eventually. I just want to enjoy myself.
Also thanks to those who posted info on some of the the other games coming out.
It seems there'll be plenty to keep me occupied for a while.

So you know for a fact that this thread was flamebait? Or you think that it BEING flamebait excuses you from your own actions? For someone who gets self-righteous about how others respond to Qistina, you're not exactly on your own best behavior here.

Considering that the OP has been here for over a year, I think they had a clue what reaction there would be.
And no, nothing excuses one's own actions. It's a good thing, then, my actions have not been rude, as you suggest.
Perhaps I should have put /sarcasm after my post. I considered it, but ultimately thought people would understand. Clearly not.

Witcher is an established book series, Dragon Age an established game series, and both are doing different things in the same space. No room for everyone anymore or has it come down to one vs one?
Of course people would just pick CD Projekt Red in the end because they like them over EA, but even then thats a silly reason to get anything in the end.

Anyway, on topic. I will more than likely purchase both but DA:I will be an :instant it's available" buy, while TW3 will be a "when I have time" buy. I enjoyed TW2 fine (haven't played the first one yet) and I actually really like Geralt but I enjoy creating my own character and the character interaction of DA far more.

Because this is the internet, where our opinions matter and our words must make everything about other things sucking.
I don't know why, people just do it and it annoys me.

Because most of us live in a global market economy, the world's largest competitive event. And it never ends.
