Tali is too mainstream.

Go Jack.

Jack's still too mainstream for me. That's why I romance Diana Allers.

It's a tough call. But if the theme is growing pessimism then go with Tali. If your Shepard is growing disheartened by his old friends not trusting him, then having him grow to love one of the few to truly trust him, only for her to die thanks to his orders I think would suit your play through well. And I think Tali's personality fits the "the good die young" type.

Jack would still be a good choice, but I don't see the overarching story of her meshing with what you have described as well as a Tali romance would.

Also, Tali's death would add some fun roleplaying to the Rannoch arch. Does Shepard stick with the Quarians through thick and thin in memory of his love, or does he fail her again, destroying what she held most dear?

Don't people play to win games anymore? I understand screwing up on accident or when you don't know the outcomes (or just straight up hating some characters), but damn. Instead of a game, Mass Effect is like a puppet show for misery scenarios.

The next Super Mario game will turn out to be about Bowser trying to save Mushroom Kingdom from Mario's destructive antics and the parasitic Yoshi race.

Jokes aside, I guess this comes with the territory for a choice-based game, but admittedly, there's some choices I just don't bother with, because I find them wholly disatisfying. I guess it's mostly that I find that level of misery inconsistent with how I see Mass Effect in general. Despite all the reapers, death and techno-zombies, there was often a gleeful sense of killing your enemies and leaving victory in your wake in the other entries.

Romance and then cheat on Ashley in ME2 with Tali, then shoot Ash during the Citadel coup. In the end let Tali commit suicide supporting Geth.

Attracted to Jack? Is this the flip side of the women like bad boys argument because Jack is...well, not a nice person, just because she has a tragic backstory cannot possibly be an excuse for some of the things she has done.

Of the two, Tali, but really, the whole thing is silly, I don't care how the woman felt about it, I wouldn't go out with her if there was a chance I was going to make her throw up, but I guess everyone is different.

I metagame for 'full win' with my MainShep, pretty much. I want to see the 'best victory possible'.

But the rest? Heck yes I want to see them experience a different journey. I imbue them with real flaws and forsake anything close to MarySue mentality while playing them. RacistShep sympathizes with Cerberus but doesn't quite agree with him, is biased towards what humans want in conflicts, sees AI as tools. EngeineerFemShep is more butch when possible but very loyal to any of those who offer to be loyal to her, but she still sees Geth more like the Quarians do. AdeptFemShep is highly spiritual (when possible), believes in the soul, and wants the best of fortunes to all sapient species.

Things like that. And sometimes, that means certain characters may have to die based on our character decisions, and what may fit the drama.

Writers themselves have to do this - kill off characters to serve either the plot or central character story. Playing a RPG and actually RPing in it is like.. in the middle. We're part reader, part writer.

Take Tali.

If your looking for the whole "loved her and now shes gone (fond memories)" twist to your romance, you wont get that with Jack - dead or alive.

Shes not that kind of character.

It wouldn't be productive, for sure. You'll just feel like an empty husk.. the very thing she feared herself when you start the romance. And that kind of Shep would probably just **** up the entire galaxy with a low EMS destroy playthrough. At least I would. "Everyone must die now!"

Anyways.. the worst thing about any of Jack's possible deaths is that they're all very uncerimonious. Just senseless deaths without cinematic flare or drama. And they're all for careless reasons. Not like, say, Ash/Kaidan, Wrex, Tali or Legion in ME3, where it's a really "rock in a hard place" sort of decision. You have to be a careless Shepard to get Jack killed in either game. That would be the hardest thing to live with -- knowing that you're ****ing stupid. Same kind of goes for Garrus.

I don't want to be a Mary Sue either (I still end up making tough choices at times, like with Tali and Legion.. since I rarely play with all the requirements for peace). That said, I already see a lot of the "failure" in the origin stories. Shep already has a history with how they handle teamwork and death. At least with Ruthless and Sole Survivor Shep (War Hero seems to already do things right to begin with).

Kill Jack.

And that Phantom arc while romanced is terribly executed. Hey Shepard, you just killed your lover - Oh? You'll act the same regardless? Good to know.

I'll just say it 'felt' significantly enough different to play ME3 as a default file, compared to my ME2 awesome-import.

It feels empty with a default file. I wouldn't use it as a template for anything but stupidity. The only kind of player who would realistically play that way is either a toddler or some dumb/airhead spouse, who picked it up to waste some time. I mean, like a person who just doesn't play games much and just presses random buttons, and turned on the computer while they were alone. You know those people. If that's truly default Shep, then the universe is ****ing doomed. ^_^

Yeah. I mean, it feels like much more of an uphill climb. Relative to it, FullTransferShep felt (narratively) like a cakewalk.

With a default file, sure, it is more empty. But.. it also felt more true to what the devs were making, in some ways. Things like the dreams and more.. made more sense. A full transfer file, I guess, has too much 'hope'.

Anyway. You know my general thoughts on the story :P

That's the dance animation from back in ME1 which Liara uses if you romance her. Nostalgia

It'd certainly be more pleasant than trying to romance a Tack, that's for sure.

Back to he dancing. Why is it canon that Shepard can't dance? The only time you do the Shepard shuffle is in ME1 and the Citadel DLC. He can cut a rug in 2 and 3...that Asari on the wall in Purgatory wasn't ready...
