What do you think of Next Mass Effect so far?

I hope we get to play other Races like Asari, Turian, Quarian. I don't know why anyone would hate that idea, I don't mind paying extra for the features. To me playing only human would result in a Shepard 2.0. I can count you on that. I personally don't want that, I'm tired of playing Human in singleplayer.
I did love to play Asari or Turian which are my favorite races, other races. I can't wait for exciting new stories and side question, maybe creating your own path and character backgrounds. I hope to travel and explore, have a new setting and story. That what I'm looking forward and hoping for in the next game.

I've basically given up on the Mass Effect series as being part of a coherent universe with consistent rules. With the departure of the 'science guy' loremaster Chris L'Etoile from the team after Mass Effect 2, the gameplay has degenerated into a series of 'mystical' powers where the central premise of Element Zero and the Mass Effect is *ignored* in favor of spectacular graphical boom-flash. Not to mention the sudden introduction of "Pinnochio syndrome" into the Geth and Edi storylines imposed by Mac Walters, and now the universe looks less like "Mass Effect" and more like "Star Trek."
Basically, the Mass Effect series has lost its 'science fiction' guys who kept the universe consistent and who took multiple physics classes in college, and has wandered into the realm of "Oh, tech and magic are interchangeable, we just change the explanation from 'a wizard did it' to 'a scientist did it."

I don't think people hate the idea as such, but instead dislike the implications that would follow from a multiple-species campaign. For instance, more species could result in an Elder Scrolls experience where the protagonist is truly a blank slate. I, for one, would not like to see that. Some wiggle room to define our hero, sure, but not a completely empty vessel.
I don't think a human protagonist would necessarily feel like a "Shepard 2.0" either. It'll depend a lot on the story and its setting.

That would require a huge amount of extra voice acting.

They did it with Multiplayer, they can do it with Singleplayer. They could just copy and paste voices, filter voices. It not that hard to do. They have the time and money. Not sure why everytime I mention it people say the same thing all the time.

They can afford it, there not poor. You people think BioWare and EA are poor. They are not. It would be a huge thing to add and make the experience much better. I DON;T WANT A SHEPARD 2.0. Skyrim was a great game, they can do it with voice.
EA aren't poor but they aren't exactly generous either.
I wouldn't mind a Shepard 2.0 as long as the character is not railroaded as much as the original Shepard was. The only other race I'd play is geth.

I did love to play Asari, Turian, Salarian, Geth and Quarian, both genders.

I miss L'Etoile's influence on Mass Effect too, but remember that it's a new studio that's handling this game. They might have their own version of Chris L'Etoile in Montreal

People have different definitions of role-playing.
Me, I have to have a character that resembles me, I can't play the role of a giant lizard.

I understand, I can role-play and play any Races, Races that look interesting. Of course they will have Human but they shoudl ahve other races. Every game we play we are a human, it be nice to play other races.
Totaly agree with that, give us some other races, would be aswesome. Humans are everywhere
Although Sion have a point, I don't have an issue roleplaying as a fictional race or anything, but it's really hard role-playing as a total jerk (renegade, mordin for exemple) or something/someone I can't connect with. For exemple I have never played any elder scrolls game as an argonian, but I have easily played the other races hundreds of hours each.
Point is, give that choice to us gamers and everyone will be happy:whistle:

Do we actually know anything at all yet?I'm honestly and personally excited and can't wait.
Yes, some people are using the commonly agreed on definition of words and others will insist on making up stuff as they go along, and then act surprised when other people don't magically divine your personal dictionary.People have different definitions of role-playing.

role playing
noun
noun: roleplaying
1.
PSYCHOLOGY
the acting out or performance of a particular role, either consciously (as a technique in psychotherapy or training) or unconsciously, in accordance with the perceived expectations of society as regards a person's behaviour in a particular context.
2.
participation in a role-playing game.
You want to play a self-insert avatar, and you do not want a roleplaying game. There is nothing wrong with that but you have to be clear on it if you want a game you enjoy.

Unfortunately, this 'new studio' was the one that introduced the majority of the lore-breaking boom-flash powers; they are responsible for creating the Mass Effect Multiplayer and the weakest of the Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 DLCs; Retake Omega and Arrival.
Based on their track record, I am less optimistic.

They're not the exact same people, though. People have dug up job advertisements from Bioware, and the writing team might be different. Plus, in the content you mention they were working within the pre-established frames created by the Edmonton team. Hopefully, being fully in charge and able to shape it themselves will help keep the lore more consistent.
All in all, I think there's room for optimism, but fair enough if you'd rather not expect too much. Probably safer that way

It is reminding me more of Star Wars than Star Trek. I think they wanted to do another KOTOR game without actualy doing KOTOR. I like science fantasy as much as science fiction but I liked the first and true Mass Effect for trying to get the science right as much as they could with the addition of a superscience material whose behavior was still explained with science. The first Mass Effect was like exploring one of the old world of tomorrrow exibits where you could look at interesting concepts for where scientific discovery could take us. Now the setting is in fantasy land with an ultratech coat of paint and a level of scientific understanding I surpassed in highschool. I can shut off that part of my mind to enjoy entertainment just fine. I greatly enjoyed Pacific Rim and the old 80s action movies. But when the starting point has set a basic level that the succesors have not met I am disapointed.
The new game looks like it could be very pretty but I can say the same thing about Cameron's Avatar and that is not a compliment. If bioware wants to get my attention they should talk about some of the concepts and ideas brainstormed for the game. Speak on spacific description, not vegue or likes. I play games for story and setting. If I want to look at art tat is good enough to touch me emotionaly I can go to a museum and see works that surpass all games easily. So covince me that you have a story that because of its combination with the medium of videogames will entertain me more than a book I can buy for a fifth the price. Or a web comic I can get for free online. I have read through the Girl Genius comic more times than all of my Mass Effect playthroughs from all three games combined. It knows exactly what it is and does it well with true artistic integrety.

1) You will be some guy flying around and gathering party of different guys to help you;
2) You will be able to pick any of them as love interest;
3) Soon enough in game you'll discover a New Great Danger;
4) You will not defeat this New Great Danger in the final;
5) You will have a climactic event in some sort of huge installation;
6) You will see as few content of previous game as possible;
7) Whatever time period ME4 will be set in, technological level of the galaxy won't change;

You say MP is a bad thing, on the contray it was the best part of ME3 after the writing quality took a nosedive with ME2 and on. They should just make a MP focused game with diffrent modes since they got the gameplay nailed.StarcloudSWG wrote...
