What I bolded is pretty much what I said about showing women and men fighting differently. Sure a woman may be able to flip large men but they don't possess the strength to do it multiple times and at the drop of a hat like the Fshep and Vega fight, in most cases they can't do it at all. Women have other advantages such as speed and agility. What is so wrong with just acknowledging this?

Do you want to create completely different animations and fighting styles for male and female models?

Oh yeah. I think it would be awesome to have a female warrior using different variations of the male moves. So far, I think the rouge fighting style could be it already, I suppose. It does focus heavily on speed and agility. But I wouldn't mind seeing different fighting animations for male and female PCs. I played an rpg that allowed players to choose the body type of their pc. Like an idiot, I picked a big man and made him a rouge type. His size affected the moves, he just wasn't fast enough and he got tired easily. Rerolled a short female, same class and she kicked butt all over the place. I probably could have done the same with a smaller man so gender didn't matter. But the body type did.

That was a rhetorical question. It'd be a huge resource hog for what's ultimately a tiny issue of animation that few will notice or care about. It's not really worth anyone's time, I suspect. Not that there are multiple body type options betond race anyway.

That's really not too unreasonable tbh. Female doing male animations often look terrilarious.

Then have males do female animations.

The fact of the matter is that history textbooks don't go into great detail on this because most people don't need or care to learn about it in great detail.

Part of the inherent bias in all these accounts stems from the judgement of what is most important, what is so essential that it's the part of history that everyone should know.  Without getting into the nitty gritty of the discussion, the idea that most people need to know more about the male side of history than the female side is not unproblematic.

Personally, I think that this is as clear in Thedas as it is in the real world.  The Codex entries all seem to speak from subjective perspectives that put forward one condensed version of events or another.

I think the statement "...because most people don't need or care to learn about it in great deal" is quite illustrative, actually, of my own point.

It can't not be in there because people don't care to learn about it...unless of course we are pre-judging what a person wants to learn before they ever read the books.  But if it's not there because we don't need to learn about it...why don't we need to learn about it, and who is making that judgment call?

As you said, both of those thought processes are extremely problematic.  They can't just be dismissed as harmless.

Here's the deal.

Most people don't know of many Notable Male Fighters outside our own present day examples. So your argument should be more towards "We should be learning more about Fighting history in general" not necessarily Female Fighting history.

My argument in regards to general history has always been that people should have a far more comprehensive and objective view of history.  The only reason I'm focusing here on women fighters is because of the ludicrous suggestion that female fighters are not credible, and the further one that was made suggesting that women fighters are only present in history as extremely rare exceptions.  I've never claimed that women fighters have ever been 50/50 with men, but the fact remains that there are been far more women fighters in history than for anyone to seriously believe that the very concept of them is somehow not credible.

Ah. Understandable. That definitely is a pretty stupid argument, "not credible" is a poor choice of words.
"Not as Physically Qualified" comparatively is probably more in tune with what is trying to be expressed.
Or Simply, dudes rule girls drool.

 Why ask rhetorical question on a forum?

And honestly 2/3 of the people who play female whine if female has male animations. And reversing it is about as asinine a solution as it gets.

Why's that worse than the reverse?

I was referring to fighting style.

I'm a man;
I prefer to play female characters in most games.
My reasons for this.
With voiced characters the male voice actor usually really annoys me(Could not stand the Canadian in ME)

In my Wow days I would mostly play Female Night Elfs but thats for different reasons... I liked Night Elfs and played them the way I was originally introduced to them, predominantly female.

For years we did not have a choice in which type of character we played and usually it was a Male protagonist, this has made me more inclined to play female characters.

Romances; Although I play predominantly female characters they are usually inclined towards the same sex, I just cringe watching the F/M & M/M relationships... I guess thats because I'm not that way inclined.

I do however sometimes play Male character too.

The same cybernetics that are never emphasized in 2 or 3? What very little there was with being able to use the widow and claymore was made null and void with everyone being able to use them in 3.

Shepard (of either gender) is no Adam Jensen.

(Apologies to all the Army peeps out there, you could probably all kick my ass, I'm just cracking wise)

If by "not emphasized," you mean "are being upgraded rather frequently." And clearly the cybernetics weren't totally deemphasized, what with Shepard being able to school Stump Chunkman.

Not only should we all be playing as male in order to be the best possible fighter, we should all be playing as qunari.

Oh look, another harmless discussion turned into a bad sociology class (is there any other kind?). What a surprise.

To answer the OP's original query, I usually play male PCs... but occasionally I'll play a female just to see what changes, as well as for the eye candy (I must say, I'm rather fond of Lady Hawke).

I'm curious about what other men have to say, for a couple reasons. 1. I'm a guy who prefers to play as a female. I want to say because it's different. We've had male PC's shoved down our collective throats for decades. When they introduced more female options over the years, I found myself more inclined to play those. 2. A number of my buddies agree that they prefer to opt for a female hero.

But, ladies, by all means voice your preferences too. Tell me, do you think the gaming industry could do more to include women? I do. Beyond that, and more on topic with the forum, do you think Inquisition will offer balanced options between the sexes? Options in terms of flirts, romance, armor, CC, and so forth?

I was appalled at the imbalance of LI options in the Mass Effect series. It really catered to us guys. Anyone who denies that is delusional.

I think it depends on the player; some will prefer to play male, some female. (I prefer to play male.)

Yes, the industry could do more to include women.

Yes I think DA:I will provide balanced options. That is, I hope armor doesn't look cool on a guy but turn into a chainmail bikini on a woman. I don't think that will happen though.

And DA2 LI were open to everyone, regardless of gender, so I don't see them taking a step back from that either.

Why would you fight the woman? There is literally no victory to be had there. Other than her shutting up.

Whatever happened to "sike!" cause I would have screamed that and ran out the ring before the fight started. The things people would do to hold on to their pride. Posted Image
