ROFL.  Because women have never, ever ever been credible fighters at any point in history in the real world?!

ROFLMAO you poor informed person!

Amazons are few and far between compared to male soldiers.

....wow.  The ignorance here is astounding.  I wasn't talking about Amazons.

Amazons are the first thing I think of when considering female soldiers. What are you talking about?

I'm talking about women fighters throughout the history of humanity.  If you seriously think that Amazons are it, I suggest you do a little more research.  No, I'm not going to do your homework for you, but I assure you, history is replete with women soldiers.

To be fair your average male could easily slap around your average woman. The screeching just isn't worth it though.

I now know all I need to know about you.  Thanks.

Well obviously *I* don't slap girls around because they're weak and it's unsporting and ungentlemanly.

It's true that the average man has more upper body strength than the average woman.  Just like it's also true that the average man is taller than the average woman.

Oddly enough, though, this has F*CK ALL to do with the fact that women fighters have existed throughout history.  Men typically being stronger than women has nothing to do with this.

The only reason people believe this at all because modern written history doesn't talk about those women.  So people who want to actually be informed and not spout ignorant, inaccurate nonsense have to actually do some homework to find out about them.

Is there really that much of a difference? I tend to play both when the option is presented (DA2 being a rare exception in that I only played as FemHawke), and when it's not, I'm not all that fussed. I've got no problems playing as Geralt and I've got no problems playing as Faith (Mirror's Edge).

This is an amazingly overblown issue.

I prefer playing women but I've done both. For instance in KotOR, my first playthrough was with a male Scoundrel and then second was a female soldier. Then, about six years later, I played Mass Effect first with a female soldier and then a male adept. So yeah, I'm pretty even, I'd think.

Oh lord.

There's no conspiracy by modern historians to cover up some long history of women fighters. That's utterly delusional.

The simple fact of the matter is that they're just not that common. That doesn't mean they've never existed, but examples such as the Red Army of WWII are the exception, not the rule. Deal with it.

Humans are a supremely practical species, so if there was some kind of edge to be had in having female soldiers we would already have turned them out in force. I think so far the only people that did that was the Russians, who sexually abused their female troops first and don't exactly care about the quality of their troops so much as their number.

Men are generally stronger, and make much better frontline soldiers because we produce much more adrenaline, which makes us even faster and stronger in the heat of things. That's not to say that women can't make good auxiliaries in the military. Even snipers, because they can be calmer for longer.

Sorry, no.  If you actually do a little historical research, you find a far larger presence of women soldiers than you ever read about in modern history textbooks.  I wouldn't call it a conspiracy, but it is no less a fact that women soldiers have been erased from standard history than have people of color.

I don't have to deal with it, because it is simply untrue.

Yeah, the Red Army unfortunately does not have a great history with its female soldiers, especially in the post-war period, where they faced a lot of discrimination and pressure to go back home and start making more sons to replace the the generation that Mother Russia had managed to get wiped out. And they usually got the crap equipment to boot.

Still, they managed to pull of some impressive stuff, like the Night Witches and their nightime biplane bombing raids.

I tend to flipflop. Warden was male, Hawke was female, Inquisitor will be whatever I feel like making at that second.

I've always found there seem to be more moments when someone says "Hey, you're a female", which are moments I like (along with "Hey, you're a dwarf/elf/mage" and along similar sort of lines "Hey, you made that choice earlier"). Also presents an immediate difference between me and the PC, helping me roleplay rather than just go with me but dressed weirdly and with weird ears.

Mind you, I can still differ myself with a male PC (just give them brown or black hair or something, less round face, problem solved). Plus, males do get their fair share of unique lines (e.g. ask for a kiss from that Redcliffe person).

I don't really have many troubles emphasising with females, LGBT, or giant people with horns. I'm a very emphatic person.

Why does it offend you that romances didn't work out one way as opposed to another? They were all shallow and not that important exercises in the end. We didn't even get a moment like in dragon age, where leiliana attacks us if we do something they really don't like. Overall, I'd be offended at the inhumaness and coldness of the relationships then who got more of what.

I play whatever fits what character I'm doing, If I'm making a naive hero whose actions might come to bite them in the butt, I make a guy. If I'm making a harsher character whose more jaded and sarcastically fun, I make a girl. Doesn't really affect me one way or another.

Actually some Germanic tribes were known to have female warriors, though they were less numerous than their male counterparts.  Old sagas refer to them as Shield Maidens, a term Tolkein borrowed for the LotR.  Interestingly, such women were take on otherwise male characteristics and ways of solving problems in the stories.

There's a story of Leif Erikson's sister apparently driving off a warband of native Americans singlehandedly with only a sword.  Allegedly she was naked and six months pregnant at the time too.

Now you're just being ridiculous.  Any number of people's justifications have everything to do with cultural values or traditions, and nothing whatsoever to do with practicality.

Using claims of men being simply better at certain things due to biological superiority only works so far, and it is a peculiarly modern Western justification.  More often than not, it's not a reason so much as an excuse
