Don't let anyone dictate to you what you can and can't do. It's just a game, do what you like. What's wrong with wanting to climb the scoreboard by firing missiles on wave 11? Is that really such a terrible thing?

You should formulate your own views rather than asking for opinions from crybabies. They're too emotional to handle wave 11 nuking.

I did suspect the whining could be overlooked, but I'm also just looking for general tips on how to sensibly use missiles. Thanks anyway (;

Most whining can be overlooked, you are right about that. However, it's also a good rule of thumb to ignore anything XFG posts here as it consists almost entirely of flamebait, trolling and stupididty.

Anyway, judging by your opening post I'd say you're already using missiles well.

I recently hit 250 games and have much yet to learn.

So far I've used missiles mostly to facilitate objectives, save squaddies about to be sync-killed by Banshees, wipe out a spawn of troublesome enemies near the LZ on wave 11, and to take out enemies dangerous at range during the last seconds before extraction.

You describe yourself as a relatively new player but that's an excellent list of situations to use missiles... sounds like you'd be an asset to any squad!
