Mount & Blade: Warband
Replaying the first Far Cry
an MMO beta

OK, I have to admit this: I picked up Aliens: Colonial Marines in the Steam sale just to see how bad it really is.

GoG had a charity thing, so I grabbed Incredipede, Waking Mars, Faster than Light, and Abe's Odyssey. Also finished Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, which were godlike. Still waiting on a modern game worth grabbing that isn't a sequel, a reboot, or some unholy mix of the two.

That may just be a bit too much to ask for.

Most gaming genres are pretty much stagnating and the few and far in between indie games with fresh ideas suffer from massive budget limitations and simply don't have the same appeal to really become smash hits, Minecraft being the so far only exception to that progression.

I think it's time for some radical genre hybridisation, three-way genre fusion or more. That would offer new options for innovative gameplay and presentation.

Faster than Light is a nice small game.

I bought "Papers, please" on Steam when it came out and found it very good.

And I bought Kerbal Space Program - already logged 200 h, but you have to like sandbox games. I know now how to orbit.

Just finished AC4 recently, and am back to Skyrim.

I've been contemplating starting another new FO:NV run after this. Who knows, maybe I'll actually play long enough to get to the DLC.

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs - Pretty good so far, and made me jump out of my seat a couple times. Odd footnote, though - the first time I encountered some sort of monster, I (the player) never actually saw it. I just had the screen go all shaky with Mandus gasping in fright, and then a journal entry pops up about needing to avoid any more of those "foul creatures" or something, and I'm thinking, "There was a foul creature?"

Kentucky Route Zero - I went into this blind and was a bit put off by how bare-bones the graphics were at first, but it's interesting and different. I mean, I have to give some credit to a game where you walk into an office building, the elevator lists "Floor 3 - Bears," and then you go to Floor 3 and actually find a bunch of bears. I'm not quite clear on whether my character realizes at some level how fundamentally weird all this stuff is, or if this is some sort of alternate universe where the weirdness is just taken for granted.

I'll probably start Bioshock Infinite soon. I played the first two but had a similar problem with both - I can't really relate to the protagonists, and for games that reward you for refraining from violence at certain key moments (which I did), they also force you to kill a lot of people who are (a) not so much evil or malicious as just insane drug addicts and/or (B) simply at odds with the untrustworthy strangers giving you orders over a radio.
