How many hours can you folks imagine it is possible to sink in this game's sandbox? Do we speak of a 25 hour game? 50? 100 hours? Around when you recon comes stage when you feel like you've done everything worth doing?

For me about 12 hours.
The collectibles aren't really that hard or numerous to get, and the main missions can definitely be completed in that time (if not sooner).
I suppose the DLC will change that by a bit, but as of now I don't know how long that will be nor how many DLCs there will be.

Played the game for 21 hours. I think I'm finished. Don't care to get more collectibles. I just fooled around and did legend quests and power struggles till I unlocked all talent tiers and finished my build, then did the main campaign.
Also the bow is broken lol. I can kill up to 40-50 orcs before having to go melee and without running out of focus. Even more if I ride a mount.

Read a Polygon opinion piece by Zach Gage who believes that MESoM's tutorial promotes violence against women. I have yet to play the game and even now i'm scratching my head at the conclusions he's getting to. What say you, fair folk of Off-Topic?
All I can say about that is: what???

I'm against the portrayal of men in games. They're all super buffed killing machines. This is an unfair representation of males.

Kissing and giving flowers: Now apparently promotes violence against women.
There's no winning anyway. If you have a women in your game you'll be called sexist for whatever it is that she's doing, and if you don't then you'll be called sexist for not having women in your game.
I am enjoying the game quite a bit, though. Also happy to see the summer games drought coming to an end finally.

Just when I thought gaming journalism was turning over a new leaf...
I think the new leaf has been forced ages back. People have gotten used to getting their content for free off net.
As result, all these sites...
A) ...Absolutely need adds to survive. High view count makes happy advertisers.
B ) ...Can't afford actual, high quality journalism. Almost always there is this lack of time, talent or combination of both standing between gaming sites and good articles.
Combination of the two results in dumb CLICK ME articles. None of it is meant to make sense, all of it is meant to make you go " OMG!" and link it on forums so people get to wonder about the latest odor and flavor of BS. Trolls who get published are still trolls.
In practice, at least for me, this all means I mostly use gaming- related bits of net for easy and fast consensus/fact checking. Ie things like metacritic are great. It is easy and fast to get some wider, general idea of how much/little world is enjoying this game or that. However, when it comes time to actually READ something..there is no way in hell I'd ever pick any of the free gaming sites of net site over ye olde printed gaming mag with awesome production values and quality of writers.
...There should be a thread for Gamergate here

@LegendaryAvenger - fortunately the dude labled the article an opinion piece. That's a vast improvement over Kotaku though.

He's off his rocker and/or likes to overreact, this is why we can't have nice/better things. I didn't see any female Uraks anywhere, in fact that is one of my complaints about the game... It isn't that I desire to kill females, its that I feel that having female Orcs would make the world feel more complete and realistic. I mean seriously

I'm always rambling! It's one of my (un)fortunate quirks.
I never said the game was bad, I did enjoy it a lot, butI do think some things could have some improvement.

Spoiler.
Well Tolkien never wrote about female orcs, he's stated that they exist (supposedly in an unpublished letter), but in most cases they seem to be either corrupted elves/spirits/men/golems etc.
It's quite confusing.

Tolkien changed a lot of things on the Orcs, so many that no real 'canon' exists. All that's known is that they come from Elves tortured and corrupted by sorcery from Morgoth. But beyond that, the way they keep huge numbers is completely up to debate. Tolkien's early writings suggest that females of various races were captured and used for breeding, which he never really changed. But he also said there are female Orcs. And then there's talk of magic creating them; Sauron using his power to breed the Uruks, Saruman using his power to breed the Uruk-Hai. Shadow of Mordor further confuses this by saying Uruks come from "great spawning vats". So really, there's no clear consensus where Orcs come from. They've got females, but the females are never seen. They can apparently be made by magic, but only special kinds. They apparently spawn from goo, but not really. Shadow of Mordor does handle the Orcs themselves fairly improperly. Uruks, the "Great Orcs", weren't in nearly as high of numbers as the regular Orcs. They were made to be the best of the best, which is why even Rangers couldn't do very well against them. But of Sauron's 600,000 or so troops by the late Third Age, most were normal Orcs, not Uruks. But even then, Tolkien himself stated he was indecisive on what Uruks and Orcs were differentiated as. Uruks and Uruk-Hai are described as being much stronger than normal Orcs, but 'Uruk' itself is Black Speech for 'Orc', meaning Uruks really are just Orcs.

All of this is why I just laugh at people that state that Shadows of Mordor "RUINS THE LORE". If Tolkien could keep the lore straight in the first place... ![]()

In the Silmarillion, he explicitly said that Orcs multiply in the same manner as other races. The reason we don't see any of them is the same reason we hardly see female Dwarves. I think the vats thing is kind of silly taking the Silmarillion into account, but then again, I'm not sure if the image of "natural" orc spawning is really necessary...

From what I remember, Uruk only means "superior Orc" if you're talking about the Isengard Uruk-hai or the "Black Uruks of Mordor". Otherwise, Uruk, Orc and Goblin are all basically the same thing.

Kissing and giving flowers: Now apparently promotes violence against women.
In order to *promote* violence against women, wouldn't the violence (or the characters responsible for it) have to be shown in a favorable light?
Last I checked, the Orcs are kind of the bad guys. And I'm pretty sure the murder of Talion's wife is supposed to make you hate those Orcs even more.
You can perhaps accuse it of being an overused plot device. But in no way does it promote violence against women.

Just got the game today (Amazon sent it out too late for the UK release date for me, apparently). Only had a chance to play a couple of hours, done the Slaver story mission and had a muck about fighting orcs and trying things out. Lots of fun so far.
I'm on PS4, PSN is LordDrakkon. Add me because I think I'll die a lot and you can get rewards avenging people from what I gather. Already died once, damn crossbow captain called Mogg the Bowmaster. I'm gonna get my revenge after tea.
Also, I'll add you Dream.

I was poking fun at the Polygon article that said it was promoting violence against women =P
Although it doesn't make me hate the orcs more that they killed her since she was only a character in-game for about 2 minutes. There wasn't enough character development to make me care about her.
