As a lover of Tolkein lore, I cringe at this half wraith thing... Couldn't they have just had him stabbed with a morgul blade and explain it that way?

They did it for the same reason as the diologue wheel in DA 2

I'm sick'n'tired of those endless Middle Earth MMO games.
So this might be different...

This story doesn't seem Tolkien-esque... it disturbs me.

That is the main issue I have with it as well.

It sounds like someone took a fantasy plot that would belong in another setting, and it forced into LOTR, just because LOTR comes with an already established fandom.

Anti-heroes might be all the rage in modern fiction, but they have no place at all in Middle Earth.

Except for Beorn. Or Boromir. Or Turin. Or Feanor. Or even Bilbo.

So are anti-heroes these days the real heroes and heroes the anti-heroes? Thus the heroism is anti-heroism and anti-heroism is the real heroism. Now which is cooler... heroism or anti-heroism?

Of those, Turin is the only one I'd call an antihero.  I wouldn't call Feanor any sort of hero.

The term "Antihero" has significantly broadened since it was first created. There are more variants aside from the gritty 90s avenger type, which Talion seems to be.

Personally I feel its become far too broad to be useful

Definitely. Which is why it was kind of silly of me to include Feanor.

Does anybody else find it astounding that nobody's come out with a decent LotR RPG? One with character creation, a part of comrades on a quest to stop some scheme of Sauron during or before the trilogy, or maybe even set in prior ages...

Heck, I'd love for Bioware to take a stab at that but I imagine they feel like they have enough traditional fantasy on their plate.

Some clips about the game.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor next-gen gameplay impressions.

Shadow of Mordor Interview: Adam Sessler talks to director of design Michael De Plater.

Looks good so far.

Edit: It looks like the edit function works again. :)

I'd kill for a decent LotR RPG. But this does look interesting nonetheless.

Graphically, it looks pretty nice. The nemesis system sounds promising. As for LotR lore -- I'm not an expert on it sadly -- I'd actually be laughing if it turned out that this was all some plot of Sauron's somehow.

What does Tolkien's lore say about wraiths? I know the whole Ringwraith deal -- nine human kings, drawn towards rings that signified power, corrupted by Sauron's intelligent gambit by binding them to his will -- but that's about all I know of wraiths.

....should probably watch some more of my "Inside Tolkien's universe"-esque DVD set I bought a while back.

This follows as much of tolkien's vision as star wars force unleashed dark side campaigns have to do with the original trilogy.

It's fun is what it is, and I don't care how much it tramples on the lore if it can deliver the amount of fun it presents in this demo.

My main fear is that the nemesis system is just going to repeat dialog a lot.
