I think it's hilarious how some people label Destructoid as 'hipster' or 'horrible reviewers' because their review scores don't mesh with whatever preconceived notion they have of the game. The fact that many other outlets have been blowing their collective wads over the game doesn't make the contrarian's opinion invalid.

What's better is that a reviewer's opinion is then projected onto his website at the upset gamer's discretion, often without said gamer even having read said review and only taken the 'score' on board. Suddenly "Reviewer A thought Game A was bad" becomes "LOL! HE'S TERRIBLE! THAT WEBSITE SUCKS ANYWAY DON'T LISTEN TO THEM"

I swear I've heard every single gaming website being reduced to 'horrible' (or *insert apt synonym here*) in such a manner. Someone's either a hipster who produces clickbait or a sellout. There's really no middle ground.

In any case, I'm more interested in this game than I was before. I was pleasantly surprised to see it came out so well but am willing to sit and wait a bit before purchasing to see more opinions and the like.

So explain to me why the second I finished reading the IGN review. I knew what the score of destructoid was ( I said .. Des .. probably around 5-6) ! They're so predictable in how they rate their game. I just can't take them seriously because of this. It's like asking a call of duty hater to rate the next Call of Duty. You either do it like a professional or you just start nitpicking at everything you hate about the product you have to rate. At this point you're just being a dishonest bigot. Anyway. I watched enough gameplay video at this point to have a good enough idea of what this game is all about.

Destructoid seem to cater for a certain type of people of the video game community. The more cynical one. The self-proclaimed elitist. Sorry, But they ****** annoy me and that my opinion of course

Destructoid is known for bad reviews. As I said, Shadow of Mordor was reviewed by the same guy who thinks Drakengard 3 is awesome so it's simply the account of a reviewer who hates good games. The same site that gave AC2 a 4/10 (as in the only AC worth playing) and the same site with Jim Sterling on it. So someone please explain why we should take them seriously? Also it's an assumption that no one read the review. I read their review for this game just as I read their review for Lords of Shadow 2 (another terrible review of theirs) that I disagreed with.

It's funny though how they give games like LoS2 and Middle of Earth 6/10 but Drakengard 3 (a game with copy pasted missions, repetitive limited combat and cringy dialogue) gets an 8/10.

Same site also gave Dark Souls 1 a 7/10 but Dark Souls 2 gets 9/10 from them. LOL If I recall, they justified the review's score because of the "technical faults and bugs" in the game. Meanwhile Skyrim gets 10/10 from them...

Also Dark Souls 2 came back with more technical faults than the first game but that gets conveniently overlooked in their review for it.

As I said, I can't take their site seriously for reviews.

Hm, so just looking at the system specs, I'm guessing PC optimization is pretty bad.

6 gigs of Vram for ultra textures? Not even Crysis 3 needs that, and I'm not sure this game stacks up to Crysis 3 in terms of visual fidelity.

I like Jim Sterling though.

Same. Sterling's opinions usually reflect my own and he's on the Escapist now not Destructoid.

Well, I'm glad it's getting positive reviews. I have some good hopes for this game, and it'll be my first PS4 buy.

There's been some speculation that the VRAM suggestions are based on your monitor size and resolution, and scale accordingly. The common idea going around is that the 6GB VRAM is for users who have the Ultra HD texture pack and are playing on a resolution of 4k+. For the more common 1920x1080 or other resolutions lower than 4k (or if you're not using the huge Ultra HD pack), the VRAM cost is probably much, much lower. The game looks good, but even with the Ultra HD textures and all settings at max, it doesn't look any better than Crysis 3, like you said, and that doesn't require nearly as much VRAM. That's the best case scenario. Worst case is it's just unoptimiized. Either way, these next three days are gonna feel like an eternity.

What others have said, I really don't take Destructoid seriously either. I don't know where they get their scores from, but it certainly doesn't seem like any way I'm curious in knowing about. I liked Drakengard 3, but it didn't deserve an 8/10. I'd say 7 would be generous honestly. And it's not just that game, it's been constant. Where scores they've given just seem to make me scratch my head and go "wtf?" It seems to me like they're just trying to stand out, nothing more. Just my opinion of course.

He usually parrots everything TB says, acts like some kind weird idiot that curses a lot (I guess kids like that he uses naughty words) and he's a social justice warrior to boot.

And the fact he gave MW3 9,5 and has the audacity to complain about companies rehashing games.

We have another PC review:

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor review: Seven rings to the dwarf lords

Unfortunately, it doesn't talk much (as in, at all) about port specifics.

You should wait for the sites that don't get early access. Sites that do get them to big titles are... less than honest with their reviews.

Definitely interested in this game, didn't think it was going to be any good but the reviews are changing my mind...

There are too many games coming out:

  • Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
  • Forza Horizon 2
  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection
  • Grand Theft Auto V

Not to mention the Metro Redux and Destiny which were excellent games, and all the games coming out next year, like Metal Gear Solid, Mortal Kombat, Rainbow Six, Halo 5, and more. I may hold off of this game till I find it cheap or used lol.

I'm not really surprised by what they have said. Its basically what I expected Shadow of Mordor to be.

Still, I'll give the game a chance.

*sigh* I was mildly curious going in, but since it seems the game plays fast and loose with lore I'll probably be passing it up
