Installing/downloading

Rather hefty game, almost 34 GB. This could take a while

Haha. I was trying to figure out how to embed tweets, I don't think you can on here. To my knowledge all you needed was [tweet] tags.

Yes, it's odd because there is a tweet button on the reply options' panel but it doesn't seem to work that way. It is frustrating.

Lol you gotta be kidding me.

Hmm, either means I don't have the Ultra HD pack.. or, those requirements are nonsense.

edit: those minimal FPS in the 20 only occured in barely noticeable spikes. I had to look at the graph to see it.

Truth be told I've been rather leery of this game.

I want it to be good and I do plan on getting it if some people I know like it, sure is pretty though.

About 5 hours in and well, its....kinda awesome.

The fighthing, considering it's basically copying the Arkham games, is fluid and engaging with blocks and counters especially meaty.

Stealth kills are the bomb (gore wise), hell I am pretty sure about 70% of my kills are bascially me hiding in a bush and suddenly jumping out whilst laughing manically to tear out the throat of evil scummy Orcs.

Muahahaha.

....Ahem.

And in regards to the nemesis system, well it works great as of now, but considering I am only 4 captains in (I keep wasting time killing/wiping random Orc patrols. Dont judge me, they are fun dammit), so I haven't run into any repeats. And since I haven't died extensively (once only in fact), I haven't seen any reaction in game to that. But I have had one Captain escape me twice and It is commented on every time we meet, so that seems to flow organically game wise.

Lore wise? Well I am a Tolkien man, but I aint hardcore about it, so the lore bits...well, I can just about swing it without feeling I am ignoring obvious stupidity but I totally can see where purist or those who put more stock in lore fidelity might have an issue. I can only say early impressions seems to say this game is good enough to ignore those quibbles.

Well, that is my thoughts on it. Early impressions would score this solidly within the 8.5 - 9 range, but if I continue to have fun and the nemesis system shines over the course of the entire game I would be comfortable going higher.

I think the Ultra HD pack hasn't been released yet.

I suppose those are full 4K textures then, else I can't see a reason why it would need a 6 gig (!) video card.

I don't know and apparently Steam doesn't either:

My club's playing in the CL tonight, so sadly I had to cut my first session short. But the first impressions were good.

I went to my local Wal-Mart to pick it up, they didn't have it because they are in the middle of inventory so they can't get new freight. I could rent it, assuming that they aren't rented out, in terms of buying it I have no other option other than to wait until tomorrow since I live in a small town and Wal-Mart is the only store we've got that sells video games (pretty much the only store we've got, we've got 3).

More time to hear about whether the game is good or sucky, I suppose. Keep me updated everyone! I'm looking forward to what everyone has to say about it.

And DAI follows exactly 7 weeks later...

I'd consider the attention to certain unexplored parts of Tolkien's lore a high point of the game.

If you look past the whole "wraith-immortal-respawning hero" thing.

The game currently has over 100 user ratings on Metacritic for an 8.9 score. We'll see if it retains such a score in the coming days. Metacritic is actually usually a good system for seeing what the gaming community think of a game. If they're really disappointed with a game (even if it's really good) then it's going to be down-voted to oblivion.

Edit:

Although I must say I'm not too happy about the season pass. Even though E.A is the publisher for Inquisition, I don't think we'll be seeing a season pass for that and it was surprising to see one for Middle Earth.

Season passes are practically the norm these days (not that I approve).

I've been following several let's plays/walkthroughs on YouTube so far, and I have to say that I am really liking the dialogue. Troy Baker and the guy who plays Celebrimbor are absolutely nailing their lines.

As far as I have gotten into the actual narrative, I'd say that the writing is holding up pretty damn well. And the cutscene flashbacks to Celebrimbor's past are beautifully animated, and are probably the prettiest portions of the game as of now.

Agreed, totally, the narrative and overall writing has been awesome thus far. The Mordor u see here is a very different beast from the one in the movies or rather the version Sauron molded it to late on the third age when he returned. And it is really, really cool to explore.

There are these sequences when u log back into the game and while loading you'll hear whispered conversation from the PC's past, which really adds to the entire experience.

Little touches like these really have me engaged and appreciative of the obvious effort. And as the guy above mentioned the VA work has been superb, totally nailing it.

Probably gonna sink another few hours straight when I get home. Can't wait.

My overall enjoyment includes the whole "wraith-immortal-respawning hero" thing of course. :P

D:

B..But I ain't.

I mean, my collection of hardcovers of the LOTR trilogy, the Hobbit, the Similarion and other assorted Tolkien works in Middle Earth plus the copies of Extended version blue ray DVDs of Peter Jackson's trilogy and that full size replica of Sting mean nothing really. Nothing at all.

Honest.

5 - 6 hours in? And I have barely touched the main quest outside the first quested Captain (the Slaver) and meeting the "other guy" (who I will not name cause that might be spoilerish?) so basically I have simply roaming around beating the snort out of Orcs.

It is stupidly fun these random acts of wanton murder, heck even laughed my into a near spasm when I nearly stealth killed an entire Stronghold.

Bloody hell.

Edit: Holy ****, triple post. My bad.

That sounds about where I am at haha. I need to move on with the story though because the level after this I'll have no skills left to unlock without gaining a power rank or doing some story mission.

Yep. I dislike how Mordor has traditionally been portrayed (movies, art work) as a blackened wasteland because the one question that popped up in my head every time was "How the hell does Sauron feed all of these orcs?".

From what I've seen of Talion(?), he doesn't seem like the typical, "no one understands me" antihero. He has a rich background (being a ranger of Gondor) and a decent enough personality for someone who had his family butchered. His VA is fine.

I'm hoping we get a Tolkien game set in Harad. Mumakil  <3
