It's no more unrealistic than a great number of gameplay abilities in previous games.
Also, the party was fighting tevinters, not templars.
This. Not to mention the ogre's crushing body ability (that based on the cutscene killed Cailan) and the High Dragon's munching skill.

Not really. The people that don't like some of the skills shown in the demo are the same that didnt like the example you mentioned (as probably DA2 combat), as well as the War Cry skill and the dragon munching skill in DAO.
I don't like all those as well, but since the first game of the series pretty much ruined for me any chance of not having some ridicolous skills and animations, I can live with that.
I'm glad that they've toned down the speed and the normal attack animations look better than in DA2.

Why build castles at all if warriors can just smash the gates down that quickly? I hope that bit isn`t in the final version of the game. She Hulk belongs in Marvel games, not Dragon Age Games.
Everything else in the game looks fantastic, though.

I´m not a fan of flashy animations either. They are very fine for mages but for warriors and rogues I prefer a more realistic fighting style without special effects. But that is my opinion and preferences.
But the constant complainig for the last month or so about Cassandra knocking down some gates is getting annoying.

The awsome button is one of the reasons DA2 was so hated. They overhyped and underdelivered. DA2 was neither tragic nor oh so good, just average, while its marketing campain promised golden mountains.

While I kinda like the idea that Cassandra destroyed the gate after two (or was it three?) shield hits I most certainly dislike the two-handed Inquisitor ground-smashing animation. It looked cheap and highly unrealistic.
Agreed. I also don't like that effect the "impact" a sword has when you hit the ground. It looks silly. I hope they do away with it.
Cassandra shield bashing down gates is also silly but they've said its a placeholder & will be replaced with something else later on.

I somehow agree, but on the same level I don't think that having your body super resistant to lethal damage belongs in DA, and yet in DAO my warrior survived both being munched by a dragon and being smashed (multiple times i a row) in a ogre's hand (and the game clearly shown that one hit is enough to kill a man). I'd glad if be gate bashing isn't present in the final game, but I can live with that.
@agonis:I agree.

Even as a placeholder they could have come up with a less crappy one if they were planning on using it at demo events

Because people have been asking for a bash ability for locks. Bon Appetit.
Well, given that only chests have ever been pickable in DA games, I wouldn't have a problem with being able to bash open any chest in the game. Doors (and especially gates for fortresses) are where you start running into a bit of a "whaaaaaa?" type of reaction.

It's like my old garage door. The door binds and can't be opened unless you grab it from one corner and smoothly lift it in just the right fashion.
How can a person break 15 concrete blocks with their head? Inconceivable! It's all about pressure points, points of weakness and such. she took physics in high school.

Aren't there one or two doors in DAO you can kick in?
I remember that we can break some wooden barricades (for example in the Alienage in the final quest). I don't remember anything about doors.

You can kick in Dywn's door in Redcliffe to persuade him to help fight etc. Cant remember any others.
There was a slight explanation for being able to do that too. In brackets it said something along the lines of "..the door has only recently been repaired.."

The whole combat looks laughable, what bothers me the most is that there is no finesse when fighting with a two handed sword. The Inquisitor wields it like a clumsy Ogre wields a club, trying to beat his enemies to death.
Go and swing a greatsword and see how easy it is. Two handed swords just use their weight and overall force to kill an opponent, you aren't going to be backflipping like a ninja with it

If Cassandra can slay Dragon's and Demons why are people making a fuss over her being able to knock down a gate?
Because killing a living creature with a precise attack is concievable. Breaking a fortified structure built to repel
attacks from battering rams, catapults and trebuchets by slapping it with a piece of steel is stupid.
If she is capable of that she may as well just knock an entire section of the wall down by punching it with her fist.
