Not a door, a castle gatehouse.

In the lore it is believable that other creatures are massivley powerfull, like Dragons and Demons due to supernatural means. Even mages being that powerfull is explained and believeable.

Had a mage blown the gatehouse down with a fireball I wouldn't bat an eyelid at it.

But for an ordinary person who shows no superhuman powers or tendancies to smash a gate open by punching it is stupid. She is supposed to be a skilled soldier. Not the Incredible Hulk

Because killing a living creature with a precise attack is concievable. Breaking a fortified structure built to repel
attacks from battering rams, catapults and trebuchets by slapping it with a piece of steel is stupid.

If she is capable of that she may as well just knock an entire section of the wall down by punching it with her fist.

Oh. Excuse me. I didn't know it was so much easier to kill a Pride Demon than It is to bend some metal, screws and bolts. Nevermind the fact that the Gate is stationary, while creatures like Dragons and Pride Demons are actively trying to kill you. Guess I'm a little late to the party.

Again, just because it's fantasy doesn't mean you can get away with anything and if what I see is too ridiculous, I can't immerse myself in the world. Cassandra breaking a ****ing GATE with a shield is extremely immersion-breaking.

It's not even about being over the top or really straining believability.

It makes you wonder why any castle even bothers with a gate if the enemy can just bring someone with a shield to knock it down. Might as well just draw a line on the floor and write "no entry for enemies please" next to it.

Demons even when possessing people are mortal and made of flesh and bone.

That gatehouse is made purely of Iron and is 1-2 feet thick and Cassandra is hitting it with a piece of Steel that is 1 inch thick at most.
Unless she has magical powers or some type of magical shield then logic dictates that by punching a gate she will break her arm long before the gate ever gives way.

I guess no one stopped and thought, "hey maybe that fortress wasn't all that well built in the first place, maybe there was a weak point in the gate"

Or maybe the "Almighty" Gate wasn't as strong as you think it is.
I propose Gates as a new enemie, since they are SO strong.

Then why bother garrisoning it? they might aswell stand in the middle of a field.
The fact that the Inquisition has now taken over that castle which is falling apart and can be punched apart is even more worrying.

Are you actually serious?

Ofc Gates are strong, they are designed to withstand sieges. People struggle to break down medieval gates with massive 6-12 man Rams weighing well over a tonne and designed to do so. Yet you think someone can smash one wide open with a shield?

Go outside, Find a Castle and punch it's ****ing gatehouse to see what happens.

I now propose we make Fortified Bunkers an enemy, because they are soooo strong..... idiot

Even a really old and worn down gate would be pretty resistant to a single person bashing it with a shield.

Can't we also bash golems with shields and swords if we're going to the gameplay argument?

I can easily buy smashing through a gate, on the premise that the gate in question has hinges and/or a locking mechanism which gives way. However, Cassandra doesn't do that. Two hits with a shield, and the gate completely shatters into splinters.

Your Warden must not have been strong enough. You can also hit a Golem with Cone of Cold and Shatter it with a warriors Overpower skill.

It would be easier to go out and find a mythical dragon so you could kill it than it would be to punch your way through a portcullis before your hand ended up a bloody stump.

You can knock golems over with Stonefist.

At any rate, Cassandra knocks down the gates with the power of Demo. This mystical energy source makes any video game character seem superhuman because you've only got 30 minutes to show off your product and there's not enough time to go sneaking through the back.

Considering my Warden was a Warrior he was plenty strong enough. Yes you can knock them over with spells like stonefist and shatter them etc. But I am yet to see a Golem fall over when hit with a shield with no other effetcs applied to it.

Well I'm not a DA Warrior Class either, so here are some other abilities that Cassandra (potentially) has that I dont:

Mighty Blow- I cant vert launch off two feet with a greatsword behind my head
Holy Smite - I can't drink lyrium so I cant work a spell.
Silence - I can't cast a ward on someone so they can't use special abilities, potentially stunning them.
Ground Pommel - I can't strike my sword into the ground and shatter the earth so forcefully my enemies fall away

I can keep going.

Well. That sounded like a challenge.

I looked at your player profile.

Your level 35 Owyn warrior class :
56 strength

My Alexander level 35 ROUGE class:

104 strength.
Not even my strongest warden
