This thread needs more melodic death metal.

Apart from that, my taste varies when it comes to metal. Currently getting into some other or lesser known bands, because all the classical stuff just bores me to death after listening to it for like 10 years straight.

Dark Tranquillity - Nothing to No One (Melodic Death metal, pioneers of the genre)
Insomnium - Down with the Sun (Melodic Death metal)
Opeth - Bleak (Progressive Death metal/rock. Sings like an angel, growls like a demon!)
Ayreon - Magnetism (Progressive metal)
Katatonia - The Parting (Doom metal/rock)
Black Sun Aeon - Cold (Melodic Doom/Death metal)
Swallow the Sun - Night will Forgive Us (Melodic Doom/Death metal)
Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn (Atmospheric Black metal. Or Tolkien metal according to their theme :P)
Agalloch - Not Unlike the Waves (Atmospheric Post-metal)
Månegarm - Dödens Strand (Folk/Black/Viking metal)
Ensiferum - Sword Chant (Folk/Viking metal)
Pathfinder - The Whisper Of Ancient Rocks (super cheesy Power metal. Rhapsody/Dragonforce/Blind Guardian on steroids)

Also, a honorable mention:
Devin Townsend Project - Kingdom (Progressive metal. This guy's stage presence is just nuts. Think Weird Al Jankovic of metal)

Definitely need that as a breath of fresh air, most of mine seem to boil down to the same 5-10ish bands. I've heard Opeth before and can vouch for their(relative) quality - haven't heard the rest but I'll give them a try.

Magnetism was pretty neat, in a celtic sort of way. Whispering of Ancient Rocks almost has a Dragonforce vibe. I approve of Not unlike the waves, a nice slow riff. Very metal.

I liked Sword Chant until the vocals came on. Guess it's just not my cup of tea. The Czar is respectable, Mastodon is one of my favorite bands of the 2 posts listed above. From them, I'd also reccomend:

~Colony of Birchmen~
~Blood And Thunder~

Hah, I wasn't really expecting anyone to actually check my links. Nice of you to do so.

Anyway, I can see why the vocals from Sword Chant aren't for everyone (some high notes stuff mixed with harsh vocals - extreme contrast), but the guy is actually pretty damn versatile and can do some cool clean vocals as well. :)

From his solo project Wintersun, Land of Snow and Sorrow
Also, since you like Agalloch, do check rest of their stuff, especially this song! Perfect for long winter walks.

For the fans of the 'Malazan Book of the Fallen' by Steven Erikson or Epic/Atmospheric Black metal.
Feels more like a soundtrack though, but I've been blasting this stuff all the way home in the background.

Felt like the most epic quest ever.

Caladan Brood -To Walk the Ashes of Dead Empires
(lyrics are in the description, in case somone feels like giving those harsh vocals a chance :P)
