This thread makes me think: do the solos done before the creation of N7HQ count for lone wolf completion?
Nope.
How many attempts to solo Gold?

No problem. It is just like everything else when they introduced challenge points, anything prior didn't count for squat.

Just curious. Since I've committed to going down that rabbit hole I wanted to know what kind of pain & suffering I'm getting myself into.
If you can solo bronze with no gear, no rockets, you can solo silver with little to no gear. Go ahead and throw on your gear for gold, and you will be able to solo it in a game or two. The only issue or hardships is the objective rounds.
Easy ways to do gold are Kroguard / Reegar or a Geth Trooper / Hurricane (use incendiary rounds for the lulz).
There are tons of good solo vids and ideas on youtube.

Then I realized that my equipment was not leveled up and I was missing useful add-ons like the Shotgun Spare Thermal Clip. Once I had a Reegar X with the maxed out Thermal Clip and Level 3/4 consumables I was able to solo gold after the 2nd or 3rd try. Mastering the use of choke points with the Reegar was also important.

Try reapers on Giant. Geth are not that easy any more because of bombers.GordianKnot42 wrote...

But I've done very well with other kits, so I don't really know what that means.

then it was fine: Krosen with a Harrier , Reaper/Giant. another failproof combo.
and then Infidrell with Claymore, same faction/map.

I always start with a silver solo with minimal consumeables (same map/kit/enemy) because it gets you into it without the same level of challenge.
Having said this, if you're already used to clutching multiple waves, you're there already, just be a bit more cautious than usual and you'll be fine. I did it the other way around - solos are helping me get better at clutching.
Of course you can always do it like Deerber with a Drell, just to say you did!

I still don't feel like I really did it, it was soooo lame.
It was quite a while back, and I think I play a little better now, so would like to try some more legit attempts. Thus far I've failed 5 times with a Fury build
