I really really want to shout from the rooftops what we're planning and show you the beautiful mock ups and prototypes and seriously crazy web development things I've learned over the past year that I just found out today have shifted my personality type from an ESFP to an ENTP. Crazy! But the problem is that until things are 100% locked, they can change (which sounds redundant). So we really can't say anything until it's locked in. This applies for any feature in a game or any announcement we make. We can't talk about it until we're ready. I don't ask that you trust that what we're doing is going to be good. Show, don't tell. If you choose to stick around when we reveal those things, I will let you be the judge of it.

Unrelated. I've never been a fan of distracting bad news with shiny things.

I appreciate the answer. I only hope you realize how empty words alone are.

Yes, yes, you'll believe it when you see it, like pretty much everyone else.

Oh believe me, I'm a Miranda fanatic. I'm sure you've probably picked up on it. I'm every bit as 'deviant' as many others. I'm just not a total jackass about it. As you say, I'm not out of control, even if I do believe Miranda is an exceptionally good model or example for the type of woman I'm into. Even though I acknowledge the romance as a relatively 'minor' component in the external gist of the technical game, in the story, it does play an a very large role for my story that I like to create with my Shepard.

Then again, I'm a guy who believes that if a person isn't bothering you, just leave them to their own interests (unless it becomes something truly bizarre, like necrophilia, bestiality, etc.)

That's the thing, though. Being a jackass about it is part of how I would define "deviant". I'm a big fan of Garrus and Tali and Morrigan and others, and I enjoy the romance stuff for what it is when it's present. Many are like that and don't go overboard with it. But the Character/Romance Forum seemed overrun with the types who do.

Seriously, folks, you want to see a really toxic OT, go check out the WoW forums.

Who knows how they are now, but back when I was playing WoW seriously, they were little more than an extension of /b/, and frequently launched raids on other parts of the forum - especially the RP section.

The pony thread, the forum games, and the like are goddamn models of Internet civility compared to them, or the DA:I section, or the ME3 MP section, or ...

Hell, non-gaming forums are just a giant war zone

Honestly, the OT forum is the only reason I come back.

Though, it seems like Chris and ***maybe*** some of the people who are making design decisions would not mind losing me or people like me. That's fine, I can live without the site and the site can live without me.

It would pretty much be a bummer though. I've met a lot of cool people on this site. The social aspect works.

She's distracting bad news with the promise of shiny things. Oh the irony!

More like, "I'll believe it when you actually say anything other than 'great things are coming we promise!' such as give examples of what's to come."

I never spent much time on any of the WoW forums outside of the Death Knight and Story forums. Perhaps I dodged a bullet.

Even still, the O-T here is a breath of fresh air compared to the kind of shenanigans people get up to over on the DA:I and ME3 forums. The statement that O-T is full of nastiness rings pretty hollow to me.

Thank you for the response.  I look forward to finding out about the new shinies.  I don't know if it's unreasonable to ask not to make the read only changes until the new features are locked down and can be announced.  Perhaps there are other reasons for not syncing things up that way...  But, if not, why not?

I need my polls because they help shape my perspective, and they give me ideas for my forum threads.

None of these changes really affect me, but I can see the benefit of removing blogs because it seemed like those were targeted heavily by spambots.

It does have a "the floggings will continue until morale improves" feel, doesn't it?

Actually, Jessica, while you're here, I'd just like to draw your attention to the Neverwinter Nights Custom Content Challenge. Every month, NWN fans on the BSN use polls to vote on the custom content that will be made next month. It's a great initiative that's been going on for three years. It highlights just one of the very constructive ways in which intregrated site polls can be used in the BSN. I know that NWN is an older game, so maybe you're not aware that it's still chugging along like this. :)

From what I've read after its closure, I'd have to agree with this.

You see, the problem was, sometimes people have technical difficulties and need help with the troubleshooting. I used to provide this help through private messages, but now that thsoe are restricted to friends, the comments on blogs have been my primary means of communication.

My guess...

Direct those with issues to Answers EA.

For help with using the character creator to bypass the limitation of not using custom avatars? I think not.

Wow. All these changes to enhance the community and user experience. Lovely. That must mean we can message people not on our friendlist soon again. Fantastic. :P

I know you guys at Bioware must be desperate to copy the success of Google Plus and Healthcare.gov, but there are better ways to go about it.

in my opinion polls are the most important part of BSN, not only to the BSN community but also to Bioware when determining who the majority is, I am very disappointed to see it go away.

and by the way I have to ask how are you gonna know what the majority is without the polls?
