I'm gonna be neutral here, but I would think it'd be smart to introduce something new and fresh or update something positively around the same time something is being removed, to avoid reactions like this is bound to get.

Yep. ****** for tat, as they say?

A little switcheroo to appease us would probably be in order here. Like...a responsive design mobile app? Image IPB

And honestly, I could give a monkey's uncle about polls, blogs, and albums. Sure, I keep my Skyrim and pet pics in mine, so it makes me a little sad, but I can just as easily post them to Photobucket.

Next thing you'll be saying groups aren't very active either and you'll "phase" those out too.

Whatever.

If the groups get removed we riot, seriously the groups are half the fun on bsn. If they want to make a good change they should let us upload custom photos without CC.

How do you limit social communication on your SOCIAL NETWORKING website? The website could have done with a privacy system if you have complaints. Give the user the option to have all these things with the option of limiting it to his chosen network. These features should say "I made a poll and I want to share it wit a number of different chosen users." Sorry I am developer and I am usually against the idea of removing a feature completely when there is space for it to be improved upon.

~~~~~~~~~~~BSN Changes
Based on the great feedback that we've received from you, the BSN community, we are anxious to roll up our sleeves, get to work, and level up your experience! As part of this process, you may notice some changes over the next few weeks as we remove, change or add features to the site – starting with some existing BSN features (Polls, Albums, Projects and Blogs) moving to Read-Only as of November 19th 2013, and ultimately phased out of the site.
This is all being done with the next stage of BSN in mind. We apologize for any inconvenience and will continue to keep you updated. We encourage you to take this time to back up or save any important data or conversations you'd like to preserve.~~~~~~~~~~~
Phasing out the projects?? WTF BSN :(
This seems like a step back given the connections to these features, but I'll wait patiently and see what unannounced improvements that don't remove things is.
Sounds more like EA feedback than community feedback =/ Guess we'll all be cosplaying tumbleweeds instead of Krogans at the next ME release
I like how they preface the announcement as if it is supposed to be good news. It reminds me of HR at work telling us how our medical coverage is so great, blah, blah,blah....the at the very end of the announcement BTW your payments need to go up.
This is a cost savings measure for EA. Less server space, bandwidth, power used, etc., etc. Nothing more. That is why all the original BioWare staff are "gone" and were replaced with generic BiowareMods (most likely outsourced to an IT shop in a low cost country like India, etc.)
There will be no great new features. That was the sugar cube for the bitter medicine of change.
End of Line.
It would be nice to hear what will be added to BSN (if anything) to at least calm the speculation and worries of people feeling they are getting denied services they have enjoyed on the BSN.
I've been actually thinking about it and this is how I rationalize the decision. Each user that signs up is given a certain amount of space to utilize to his expense. Bioware Social Network seems like a project that does not gather a lot of revenue for the company and it seems like there is no reason to go all out on it. The site is just becoming too big for them cause new users are joining every time. I think "improved experience" really means "we can't handle maintaining this website as it is too expensive so we might as well take a shortcut" Think about how expensive it would be to buy more server space and analyze inactive accounts. This seems like It is just a way for them to take the short way out cause remember that Bioware does games and this social network was probably just a side project. I hate the idea of this happening though.
If space is a problem why not a system to delete many of the older groups and projects no longer active? It is very difficult to search for groups so as a result there are many duplicates. The project section as a whole isn't too commonly used and that could probably be wrapped into an improved group capability.
Spammers have got to be a major drain as well, but I would imagine that there are some methods that could reduce that, although nuking the blog section from orbit would probably be necessary. They pretty much own that area.
+1, right down to the chirpy HR-like "this is soo good for you" style in which the news is delivered.
I freakin' hate marketers.
