This use of of your analytics gives a distorted view on the way that albums were actually used on here. What would happen is that someone wanting to illustrate what they were talking about in a thread would upload a picture to their album and then using the share link that is visible when you view the picture full-sized, they would copy the UBB code for embedding into their post. Heck I even made a tutorial for those on the nwn section who didn't know how to use this feature. What this means in practice is that while traffic in the Albums section would appear to be low, viewership of the actual images would be as high as the popularity of the thread the image was embedded in. Making telemetrics a poor measure of the actual usage of Albums. We also use robust telemetry/analytics data that gives us a lot of feedback. That's how I know that less than 2% of our total registered users (not time spent which some people have interpreted and argued that it takes little time but actual users) are interacting with the features that we will be making Read Only.

Jessie first thank you for not messing with the photos in groups. I just tested it with a picture I meant to upload anyway for the group that I lead and it still works. To reiterate. It's not about traffic, it's percentage of actual users who are making use the feature overall out of all registered users. Traffic is not really a consideration. Moreso however, is the amount of spam and off-topic (aka non BioWare gaming content) related usage of the features we determined to make Read Only.

So what you are saying is that because SOME users were using these features for non-BioWare content you are taking it away from EVERYONE. That doesn't seem fair to me. That's like closing all the banks because some people commit bank fraud. You are punishing the innocent to get to the bad guys,
Why not just close the accounts of the spammers and warn the people who were posting non-BSN content?

Lol It's BSN what do you expect? Same thing with the PM system. Sending messages to others who weren't friends and some people who trolling with that and then "lol wont play nice we'll take it away from you forcing you to be come fiends."AutumnWitch wrote...

One other thing that you could clarify for me. Would you care to expand by what you meant by "off-topic (aka non BioWare gaming content)". Does this include custom content built to use Bioware engines or does it only include stuff actually made by bioware.

The Read Only transition is happening today.

Urm, yeah, sorry, just came to my mind. No offence!
Anyways, thumbs up for sparing the projects for now, and for providing a little insight into the reasoning behind these changes! I still think it might have been cooler to make the announcements a little earlier, so that more people get the chance to react and comment, but talking about this stuff at all is a start.

I'm totally fine with it if they plan to purge this place from filth. If it means that we need to let albums go, that's fine. To be honest, the quality of conversation was much better on old pre-BSN forums. It also looks like this place has been invaded by certain minority which, well, mostly makes this place pretty weird. All those weird romance threads...
Please, tell us who this certain minority is.

I have a question...WHERE DID YOU SEE ANYONE ASKING FOR THIS?
Really. REALLY?!
Have you people lost your minds? Sure the bots are a problem with those, but hey, make a "put email hare for anti-bot activation code" A forum Standard will not be so hard.
So are we getting a real custom avy? Some new features? A forum layout that make sense? Off topic getting chopped?
Now I'm trying to be reasonable here, but Where is the Carrot for the stick you are smacking a great many of us in the face with?
I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking it, but I will ask it. So what are we getting in return? Or is this still a "privilege" to even post here? Because from what I read in the what we would like to see on the BSN forum thread, this isn't anything we asked for. So I will ask again what are the POSITIVES, of this change?

If space is a problem why not a system to delete many of the older groups and projects no longer active? It is very difficult to search for groups so as a result there are many duplicates. The project section as a whole isn't too commonly used and that could probably be wrapped into an improved group capability.
Spammers have got to be a major drain as well, but I would imagine that there are some methods that could reduce that, although nuking the blog section from orbit would probably be necessary. They pretty much own that area.

Or maybe they will press the "Delete" button of BSN in near future...

@Morocco Mole Would you care to define what you mean by inactive? Do you by chance mean NwN and NwN2. For me it's not the inactive threads, it's things like the My Little Pony thread that is hogging all the bandwidth. 1692 pages? Really? On an RPG site?
TR
I mean redundant and unused forums like the various Mass Effect and Dragon Age ones, each which have a "general discussion", "gameplay", and "spoilers" section that are never used because everyone moves up to the most recent release to discuss the series. So my proposal is to cut all of those forums and merge them into one specific section. For instance.
Mass Effect: Has three subforums dedicated to Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3. A general discussion section and one for gameplay and fanart/fanfiction/etc.
Same with Dragon Age.
Older Bioware games can be lumped into their own section.
My Little Pony is stupid (and I have no idea why its stickied) but it at least has active users posting in it and is also confined to the off-topic section so it isn't like its taking up space in the forums dedicated to the games.

You know pro-templars remind me of the ****s white people during the Civil Rights movement. You know like the cops who would spray high pressure fire hoses into a crowd of peaceful protesters or sick attack dogs on them. Then there are the others would would beat a black kid to death for being "uppity" or having the addasity to think they were the same as the white folk. You are just like them. Saying it is okay to take everything a black person has and destroy it, such as their homes and business, then hang them from the nearest tree because they dared to be like the good white folk and not stay in their place.
I know this will be seen as offensive because it is supposed to be. And if anyone of the pro-templars are black and doubly offended well to damn bad.
