BSN: Oh boy, I can't wait till we can use this site for even more socializing!
Bioware: What!? I'm sorry I didn't catch that. It sounded like, please remove all the features that are popular in order to make this site less social.... CAN DO!

Him and Stanley Woo were by far the worst moderators/community managers I have ever seen on this site.
Every time you raised a valid point it was either you got insulted or it was "This is how bioware does things, you can accept it or leave" with no leniency to any other thought than their own.
That is if they didn't start or support another flame war in the process.
Their practices were also by far the most blanket statement infested I have ever seen.

Sheesh. It's hard being a fan of you guys sometimes, I have to say.
Good... good... use your hate. It gives you power!
LOL In all seriousness, I'm reading all of this as an eventual "no more Off Topic, do it all in Groups" for the long term. Which has me less than jubilant... although maybe I'm wearing my tinfoil hat a little too much.
wait, are they planning to remove the off-topic forums too?
They haven't annoucned such plans. Just my gut instinct about things. The tell tale signs are there, such as " passionate game content discussion" and "these moves are around focusing the site back toward game content discussion and away from making the site a catch all" comments being made. Non-Bioware-related discussion is on the chopping block, in my mind.

I do agree that the areas need some more moderation, hence why I put forth the idea on self moderation, more akin to how the groups are structured to take some of the strain off the few mods we have.
The PM system is just stupid as now if you're in a group with some people instead fo just sending a message to them you have to make sure they're on your friends list first. Why?
I guess if it's to stop spammy messages happening then fine, but for that they shoudl just add a "block useraccount" or something instead, would make things a lot simpiler.
It does seem to be that with each game comes out the focus goes to that game and that game only in terms of community management focus. As soon as ME3 came out the majority of the focus went to that, instead of being spread out equally.

What good will be added to make up for the removable of polls, blogs, projects and albums? Because I can't think of anything. This ist he same site who made an uneeded change to the PM system, making the blocking system useless(if osmeone bugged you with pms, you simply blocked them) Now you need to add them as a friend just to pm, it's stupid. We also don't know when these new stuff is even coming. Also the fact that Bioware really thinks people asked for this makes it worse.JamieCOTC wrote...
Without knowing what is to be added or changed in addition to the services being stopped, I really can't give much feedback to the current changes. I can only speak for myself, but the loss of projects for the modding community is a bit disheartening if nothing is put in its place.

This may be true for Dragon Age mods, but Nexus doesn't have an area for Mass Effect mods.Jessica Merizan wrote...
I wouldn't phase out these aspects of the site if I didn't believe there are external spaces that do a better job of providing those services, so I encourage those of you who do to please back up your data and transfer over to another site/server.
No kidding. There is nowhere else besides moddb.com to host Mass Effect mods, and those on moddb.com have to be "approved". There are literally something like four Mass Effect mods over there. It's nothing like being able to host them here, where the majority of the Mass Effect community can be exposed to them.
The Nexus has plans for a general, Nexusmods.com site, but it isn't up yet, and there is no date set that it will be available. Still, to essentially chase the modding community off BSN saying "Oh there's better places for you to host your mods" is a horrendous diservice. These are the folks that love BW games so much they spend hours and hours modding them. Mods add to replayability, which helps maintain player interest between releases. The players that form the modding community are integral to the "level of intelligent discussion" on BSN.
My group has been working on mod for ME3 since March. The largest mod since MEHEM, and in some ways, larger than it -- it will, in fact, be compatible with it. During this time we've even been communicating with Dusty Evermann who has been nice enough to give us some technical input. We are wrapping up the final module of what is a total of 4 modules that make up the mod, and will be releasing around Christmas. We had planned on hosting on a BSN Project Page.
Apparently, now we can't.
Thanks, BW.

following correctly...your phasing out "Polls, Albums, Projects and
Blogs" because members don't spend a majority of there time in those
areas.
It only takes a few moments to upload/download a mod,
create a project page or ask/respond to a question....that members are
not spending most of there time in the Project area isn't a surprise.
Project Pages are not going to be active and get a lot of traffic. People go there to download a project and then they don't go back unless they have a problem. Traffic is not a proper indicator on the value or importance of this section of the site, and should not be judged as such.
I'll refrain for the most part on commenting on blogs for now, but I can't begin to convey the important information I've found on these blogs for modding my game, customizing my Shepard, tweaking my Coalesced, getting my ME3 Shep to look like some version of her ME1/ME2 self, etc. Apparently BW isn't interested in providing players with a way to communicate this information anymore. Blogs are a way for players to communicate with other players in a much more cohesive and coherent fashion. To remove this form of communication in the name of improving the "community" seems...well...I won't say what I'm thinking.
Removing polls is another disservice. Polls are one of the easiest ways for players (customers) to communicate with each other in a way to provide BW with quantitative feedback regarding an issue. Removal of this feature essentially removes a mechanism that players (customers) can use to be heard.
That is all. For now.

Heh, as if the DA sections are any different.
But you're welcome to your opinions, but the job of a good community manager is to balance the both rather than just pander to one or the other.
Blanket statements and closing entire threads rather than address the issues in place there is less effective in the long run, just from a business perspective. sure there may be a better community for some, not all but some, but that is still a large community base you are ignoring, one you can gain funding from. Every slightest bad action you do to either party is bad for business. Yes there will be outliers that don't like anything just because it's not theirs and they have to have the others conform but at the end of the day that's how life goes.
You can either accept this fact and be somewhat civil to the idea of balancing it or you can bully those out of your community, thereby creating a bad rap for not only the company but the community as a whole, which is just as detrimental to the process of communual cohesion then what you claim to be deviants and crazies.
It's cool, I'm done here anyway, just wanted to provide my two cents on the topic.Spartanburger wrote...
