Mistaken for female gamer or vice versa?

In my view one of great things about ME3 multiplayer is the diversity of the different characters and abilities that you can play which you don’t get in other games. So from my perspective there’s a reason to actually play a different sex character from myself such as the asari. A quirk of this is that other “noob” gamers don’t get this and mistake me for a female gamer. So why’s that a bad thing? The unwarranted attention e.g.

I was new to the game and have no respect cards and so tried out a female engineer just to try out the other powers  I hadn’t specced in my male engineer. This resulted in 3 messages from the same player over 5 minutes asking if I was girl. I just blocked them after that.

Running around the map casting dark channel on the enemy and shooting them with warp ammo enabled sniper rifle. Over the mic in a slightly creepy russian accent “Keep doing your thing, pretty lady.”

Just playing an asari and got a message from a player asking if I was a girl. I couldn’t bother to explain and so just blocked them.

I suppose these experiences are quite tame but anyone else had this? Or even the vice versa experience?

It is possilbe he was just referring to your character, not you. I often don't know who is on the other end, but if the character they are playing is female, I will sometimes address it as such. Or just last night I kept asking "Mr. Volus" to recharge my shields. Obviously, the player is not a Volus, but the simple comment "Mr. Volus" made him aware I needed a shield recharge.

I can't tell if your being ironic or not, but as stated "different sex character from myself" and then indicated I played as an asari.

Pls, it is spelled grill or grille if you are french.

A lot of it has to do with the name of the player as well. I play a lot of female characters in MP but my name suggests I am a male. I should have made my gamertag SparklyRainbowUnicorn and I would get a lot more courtesy and fan mail.

I always say like that guy is a noob/pro/ect when he/she on a female character. Probably comes from the fact I know 0 girls that game :P. I have had people kick me for liking quarians, being accused of talimancing, just using a female and many more reasons. Just ignore the haters, they hate on you because your better than them.Image IPB

Not so much on Mass Effect 3, but I have had it happen a decent amount on WoW.

I have noticed on there at least, it varies based on what I play.

My female Shaman(named Cyonan) specced for healing see's the most people thinking I'm a girl. My female Warrior tank see's quite a bit less, although I have seen it on all of my characters including my male Paladin tank.

I've actually even had people on BSN tell me they thought I was a girl. I'm told the way I type makes me out to seem like a girl at times, and the Kasumi avatar probably doesn't help.

It's always amusing when an elitist starts treating me really nice even when I'm making mistakes they'd normally rage about because they think I'm a girl, though.

Most of the time when random people ask me if I'm a girl, my typical response is "does it matter?".

Problem solved.

GI is OP.

Asari are mono-gendered, therefore OPP.

Wherever Asari are female or not is perhaps another debate, but you can't deny my first example where I said I played a female engineer. :P

It's not a debate.  They don't have "gender."  They do, however, closely resemble the human interpretation of what a female is.

Girls don't play video games or post on video game forums. Also, girls do not intentionally infiltrate.

Fair point cap and gown. It all depends upon how it was said and how that's interpreted. What can I say, it feel creepy at the time which I why I remember it.
