I agree DullahansXMark. The RNG model isn't bad but it needs some tweaking to be good. Some of the DLC items should have been ranked common and uncommon. The Supressor pistol performs like a common. The Krysae after the nerf could have been dropped to uncommon. I think that is the biggest issue with the RNG store. Items that you can get fairly easy from 5000 and 20000 credit packs are the smallest part of the manifest when some of the items from the rare pool perform like they should be ranked lower. The Geth Pulse Rifle for instance is a rare but performs like a common or uncommon.
Ah right, I forgot how quickly rares became more populous than commons.
I think the biggest problem was introducing Ultra-Rare DLC weapons. When the game first launched we had 7 Ultra-Rares (11 counting N7 weapons). Now we have 21 Ultra-Rare weapons in the pool. Even if there were an Ultra-Rare Pack, that'd still require 210 Ultra-Rare Packs to max your UR manifest. But since we only have PSPs, our chances are about 10%. Assuming we had even luck, that'd be 2100 packs = 207,900,000 credits = 1540 Platinum matches = WAY too many matches required. If it were kept at 11 it'd be more like 1100 packs = 108,900,000 credits = 807 Platinum matches = quite a bit more reasonable. Still a timesink, but you'd get there eventually.
I think the easiest way to subvert RNG trolling would be to have a failsafe that increases your chance to get an Ultra-Rare each time you failed to get one, ALL THE WAY to a 100% chance if you kept failing, that would reset itself to 10% (or whatever) each time you finally got one. That way you're always making progression and never once come to a point where you spend 20 million credits and still fail to get an Ultra-Rare (which, by the way, happens. A lot.)
And of course there's what you said. We need a more diluted pool. More commons and uncommons, less rares and ultra-rares. (having a system that somehow always made sure your favorite weapons stayed useful would be an improvement, too. I love the Phaeston, but DAMN is it weak.)
Other improvements like that would be very beneficial for the system.
