*groan* I'm going to pretend I didn't read this . . .

Why? Is there something wrong with the question?

A plausible retcon might be that the escape from Howe's forces took some time. Maybe your character and Duncan spent several hours just lying up and avoiding patrols, and/or took a circuitous route to slip the perimeter.

It's a fabulous question.  That's the problem!

Afraid to get sucked into another thread?

Or am I just reading too much into that? ;)

Why are you assuming Duncan was in a great big hurry?

While two people CAN travel faster than an army, it doesn't mean they will.

Because he mentions that you needed to hurry and get to Ostagar.

Not to mention I don't care if he's not, I am, and he strikes me as the type that would be willing to push it with me in order to get to my sole living relative to inform them of what has happend and perhaps keep them out of harm.

*grin* It's going to bug me if I make another HN.  My next play through was going to be a male human noble who becomes king.

I know, maybe Duncan didn't want the PC to get this news to Fergus until after the battle because he would have taken his troops back to Highever so deliberately did not catch up, and the PC was in too much of shock to notice.  Ok, that's a reach, but I'm sticking with it for now . . .

I was thinking of the same thing. I don't think it's beneath Duncan to purposefully delay their movements so the troops could reach Ostagar before the both of them could reach them to make them turn back.

It actually does make sense; that strikes me as exactly the thing Duncan would do.  My only problem with it is the PC not being insistent, but after the shock of the entire event, even that is not too surprising.

Well I could concede the PC is in shock, but the PC isn't stupid and he is still aware that his brother, his sole living relative, is still in danger and he needs to get to him as soon as possible. After getting to Ostagar and finding out he was sent on patrol in the Kocari wilds and I wouldn't be able to warn him, I could put two and two together and Duncan and I would be having a come to Andraste meeting then and there if that was the case.

There are no horses in Ferelden. They're all in Orlais and other "civilized countries". Zevran tells Oghren that, after Oghren bi***es and moans about having to walk everywhere, and wonders why they don't use horses. :P

And I resent having to make up a convincing RP-story now, because they really *should* have caught up with Fergus. Dayum!

What if Fergus was also pushing it? If he was in a hurry to get to Ostagar AND had a head start, then you probably wouldn't catch up.

I'm pretty sure there are horses in Fereldan, but they're probably reserved only for the richest poof in Denerim as a status symbol.

The logistics of it don't fit, as mentioned earliier, and aslo as mentioned previously, 2 people can take routes that and army can not in order to catch up.

I personally think Fergus pulled a Morrigan, and somehow managed to get the coupling for the dark ritual done on the night before the battle THEN march several days to Denerim from Redcliffe.

More annoying is that Fergus somehow dissapears completely until the end of the game. After i sacrificed myself in my first playthrough, it has a scene of Fergus suddenly showing up and King Alistair gives him back all the Cousland territory plus Amaranthine.

So my character dies for Ferelden only to have lazy Fergus show up and take over the family estate thanks to my deeds. That burnt me, and i wont be sacrificing myself again thanks.

You are the second son, Fergus cops the lot regardless of merit.

And besides, what else was he going to do with all that land? Make it your personal burial ground?

Selfish git... ;)
