When I try to give the silver shard to the plot NPC, it does not recognize I have it and let me advance to the next phase--the guy just yells
at me for coming back emptyhanded. I found this old topic:

I tried that and it didn't work, just does the same thing. The in-game update won't install the patch. I can't find alternate patches that work. I don't even know if the patch would fix this. I really feel like I'm screwed here. I love this game.

I have not seen any real connection since it is not just a few of them.

well, you guys might have what i coin the 'permission bug' (although i certainly didn't discover it)
Except it's not a bug. It's the way M$oft handles 'permissions' (aka UAC etc etc) post-Xp
- whenever NwN2 wants to write a global variable, it needs full & free access to write a file (sometimes it may just hold it in memory for a while, but it has to write the file sooner or later...) but unless UAC/file&folder permissions is configured just right the file, and the global_var ..
goes bork. A google search for "nwn2 permissions bug" might turn up the relevant threads; i think it was drethnor who found it and came up with some solutions

It worked! Thank, homey. I ditched the ****** too, so it's a double victory. That sure is scewed up about the bugs in this game.
