You've got guts, Xand. I'll give you that. Most people wouldn't be so upfront with their opinions on these matters for fear of the R word, especially on a forum full of lefties like this one.
Lol. I wasn't being srs about the handicapped, Irish and Muslims but I suppose not everyone will appreciate my dry British wit.

What about the Moors that ruled Spain until the Spanish overthrew them, pre Columbus of course.
They were supposedly black.
Don't know about their features.
But blacks include black people who are mixed race, so they could have European features and still be considered black in modern day parlance.
shrugs.

Because there are a great deal of different types of dark skinned people and they don't all look like stereotypical Africans. That said I still think there aren't any "proper" African peoples in Thedas that we know of yet and if there are then it needs to be fleshed out more to make it more plausible.
That depends on what you mean by African. Are you talking about a culture in Thedas that resembles one in sub-Saharan Africa, like say a fictional culture based on the Maasai? Or are we just talking about appearance?
If it is the latter, there most certainly is an equivalent in Thedas. Some Rivaini are black.

Not what I was talking about. Don't know how it is in the UK, but over here in the States it's very easy to step on peoples' toes about race and other such things. Most people don't have enough backbone to speak up against it.
Kind of the same over here, except that there aren't any black people in Scotland. Which probably explains why I don't find them attractive. No real exposure to them you see. No real negative thoughts about them either, just don't personally find most of them attractive. Don't find men attractive either and don't have a problem with those that do nor do I hate men.

Well the Moors were thought of as "black" by the Caucasian natives of Spain but aren't what we'd consider "proper" blacks because they weren't Negroid but quite dark skinned Caucasoids. Old terms I know, but still marginally more specific than "black" or "white".

If I was black I'd get annoyed at people assuming all blacks are the same. It'd be like people assuming that Europeans are all the same, or worse that the Scots and the English or Irish are.

I'm fairly confident than when Gaider used the word 'black' that he was probably using it in a modern context, not in how it might have been used by someone who lived in 13th Century Europe.
Also you're ignoring Rivaini are said to range from tan to ebony. Caucasians can be tan, but except for those of biracial/mixed descent they aren't ebony.
Also, Vivienne.
Just admit you're wrong already.

Well that's where things get complicated because "Caucasians" can be ebony skinned. Technically speaking Indians and Arabs and the like are Caucasian. It refers to skull and facial structure rather than skin colour. It's possible to be black and still have Caucasian features, hence why the Moors were considered black despite not being Negroid.

People want "black" features, the hair(not one token cornrows option), the bone structure and the facial features. Not a "white" person with black face.
Most people aren't anthropologists, so giving people sliders to play about with to change a "white featured" black person into a different race just won't do. I propose a kinda Saints Row option; have White, African, Asian and Hispanic(and whatever other sub categories for you sensitive souls) as sub-races and have options catered to them. Making it easier to make a person of the race you want without having to juggle sliders.

Well as an American Im glad we don't tolerate racist, homophobic, or sexist commentary...even the comments that are deceptively ambiguous. But I'm also aware that a small portion of our wonderful population likes to fight for their right to be pompous condescending pricks. Glad bioware is including better features for this game
