Thinking to  buy the entire collection, does anyone have a list and the timeline of the events?

Mass Effect Retribution (Estimate)

Mass Effect 2 (Opening)

Mass Effect Redemption Comic Series

Sorry to bump this from so long ago, but just wanted to check - is this absolutely definitely the correct order that the books should be read in? Don't want to read them in the wrong order; one of my pet peeves..

Well I found this thread through a google search, just before I bought one of the books. A further google search found another thread on this site where no one seemed to have any idea.. so I figured I'd bump the shortest one up to get an answer, hopefully.

It's mostly correct, just not sure when retribution is yet. In fact aint it out next week or something?

First week in August, I think. Drew, on his website confirmed that Retribution is set after ME2 (Jan 25th entry).

That is, indeed, the correct order. There's also an 8 page digital mini-comic called Mass Effect: Incursion, and I believe that fits in between Redemption and Mass Effect 2.

Incursion comes before Retribution, other than that your list is correct.

So it does, my apologies.

Erhm, I meant Redemption. All these -ion names are pretty confusing.

Yet to start reading even the first one - are they actually well written?

By the standards of video game novels, they're incredibly well written. They're not in the same league as your Asimov novels, your Dan Abnetts or your Peter F. Hamiltons, but they're certainly readable at the very least.

I quite enjoyed reading both novels released thus far, and I'm quite eager to sink my teeth into Retribution.

I'm a HUGE Peter F. Hamilton fan, so I'm really glad you mentioned him, as I was partially going into this thinking they'd be good filler-in's before I start on more Hamilton. Now I know not to be so optimistic.

They are good books, don't get me wrong, but don't go into them expecting a super high quality novel. I don't mean to say Drew is a bad writer, but he's not had the experience of other sci-fi writers. I can really only assume he's going to improve over time, especially as he's writing books for other series (such as Star Wars).

Not actually read any Hamilton. Got his Commonwealth Saga, but it scares the daylights out of me with its size.

I've read the Greg Mandel trilogy, and (somehow!) the Night's Dawn trilogy, which, don't get me wrong, took me an AGE to read - but absolutely every page was a treat, and a delight to read. His style of writing and sheer talent for writing multi-plot space operas is un-****ing-believable! The Commonwealth Saga is up next, but I'm still dazed from the ND trilogy, so I've been taking a break by reading Larsson's Millenium trilogy; something a little different. But then the thought crossed me that I'd never read the ME books, and the idea really appeals to me. It's ME in a book - my two favourite things!

They're fairly cheap and they're quick & easy reads, especially if you've been coping with Hamilton. I say go for it, and even if you don't think they're that great you can either sell them or it's not a huge loss.
