This thread is most entertaining.

However, OP, I feel your concerns are unfounded.

Regarding the first post, I come from the RPG side of things too and I don't think you will have much to worry about (according to other threads and game previews). If anything, I think the changes will increase immersion in the gameworld. Some of the mechanics of ME1 were holdovers from trad. RPGs and didn't really fit the background e.g. rather than hoping you get enough drops of a certain level of mod or equipment to fit out your party your armourer just reverse engineers it and fabricates more and/or upgrades what you've got.

Regarding exploration, it never really made sense to me story-wise that you were on a race to save the galaxy but stopped off to go sight-seeing along the way. Granted, some parts like the Cerberus missions fitted. It always seemed to me that this part of the game was only there because it was expected of an RPG, likewise the collection quests. It looks like the Hammerhead DLC includes exploration missions similar to ME1, and while those missions flesh out the main story they are not critical parts of it.

Firstly, I must say the OP of this thread has taken the suggestions by EVERYONE with a fairly good heart, and to that, I say well done.

Secondly, if you're worried about the RPG elements being less, please keep in mind that RPG is a "Role Playing Game" = a game where you play the role of a character... do not confuse this with a "Roll Playing Game". ME2 will offer a ton of more customization than the original, and while the combat has been improved to appeal more towards FPS fans, it shouldn't detract from the RPG elements at all. You'll still be able to upgrade, level up, customize, etc... I say, buy the game and enjoy! If you're not excited enough by the first one to buy the 2nd one on day one, then you really need to go back and play ME1 through again, this time exploring the universe.

Thirdly, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

" into what is by all means an rpg?"

This is where you're mistaken, my kind sir. Mass Effect is action-RPG by all means. So it has every right to focus on shooter aspect - however I understand where your concerns are coming from.

I will miss the exploration -which will be added by future DLCs, it seems- part, and I will miss skill-based aiming, etc. But anyways, as for the latter it seems like an improvement.

And if there are more rpg elements dumbed down, I will miss 'em too.

On the other hand, there were signs for a lot of RPG-improvements if you saw the videos, interviews looking for these clues. The whole game will feel more personal, more alive, and for the characters, they seem to be more deep (don't judge by the 1-2 minute footage we have about them). And that's what the real strength of a BioWare RPG is.

So it's unnecessary to be concerned about them. If you really are, then wait until the games come out, and then check the forums. If the RPG is gone, I will flood the forums side by side with Udina yelling "This is an outrage!". But it's not likely. Not one bit.

Well, some RPG elements are gone. But it's mostly about skill-based things, and between you and me, a true rpg was never about points to spend. That's why it is called RPG, roleplaying game, not PSG, point spending game.

Let's just hope we loyal BioWare fans, who were there from the beginning of BG2, get that we deserve.

And R.I.P. planetary exploration, you was one of the main features of the game, we will miss you, even if Mako was a pain to control sometimes. Well, we wait for your resurrection in the form of Hammerhead, and certainly hope that a lot of worlds will be added that we can explore.

Well, I've got my concerns, and my hiopes towards tthe game. We will see what will it turn out...

There are vidio reviews online already, they confirm there is NO VEHICLE exploration (afaik).

Reading all the negative comments I begin to wonder who lets in 10 years old (sorry, I dont mean to offend any normal 10year olds) on the forums? All the reactions and pejorative responses determine the level of the posters.

Do you know who are you laughing at? Youre laughing at yourselves.

at the OP.

You're completely right. Bioware misread our concerns. When we said we wanted better combat, we meant we wanted turn based combat. Also, they missed the opportunity for a better leveling process as what we really wanted were endless random encounters. That way we could grind to level one million in about 50 hours, which is obviously a far better system for leveling.

Also, we said we wanted chocobos.

Does that mean that "God" is in fact, in the forums instead of the TV like Marilyn Manson said he/she/it was? lol
