I don't thunk you have anything to worry about. People complained that the shooting mechanics were loose and the exploration was boring and tedious, so they tightened up the shooting and made the exploration more focused and interesting.

In the end, it's all about pleasing the majority. I consider myself a pretty big RPGer, and I'm perfectly fine with some added action and precision to the shooting game. Not every game falls perfectly into the little pidgeonhole of the genre it's in, and ME has done a great job making the combat feel intense and dangerous by going with a shooter mechanic instead of a more traditional system.

Sir, or madam, I believe you need to take a long walk off a short pier. You are so completely and totally incorrect in your every though processes that I dare say you're mother should have opted for the abortion. You are a complete failure as a human being. Crawl back into what ever parasite infested hole you emerged from and hibernate until the equinox. Your bulbous pustule of human filth.

Hey there! Go **** yourself! Image IPB That is all.

I have had my own doubts about ME2 but with each passing day they get quashed. I'm really looking forward to this game and right now... nothing on my mind. Well... except the Steam Pre-load. That's all that I'm worried about ^^

Would be interested in your opinion of the game after release :) Preordered, but always interesting to hear other peoples views on a game.

This may be the first game that Bioware releases that I will actually wait for a review on before going out to buy it. I played the original mass effect and I did enjoy it, but it had it's obvious flaws that I'm not sure were addressed. It just seems like this 'series' is Bioware's experiment into making first person shooters than anything else. Yes, the rpg elements are still there, but why would the best rpg developer on earth decide to introduce more action and shooting into what is by all means an rpg?

The thing that really hits home with me is the fact that the makko (or however you spell it) is gone. There is also a recent review (posted on these forums) by a german site stating that exploration as a whole has been 'dumbed down' significantly. Now, by no means was exploring the same layouts over and over again fun in me1, and that was certainely an issue that needed to be corrected, but I honestly dont think that stripping that part of the game away completely because you're too lazy to put in the time to do it right is the correct action here. I dont know if its just them being lazy or an unforseen new ally to bioware thats now putting more pressure on releasing half finished games, but this is not the direction the series needs to be going and this is not bioware. It just seems funny that you had the time to work on 'free' DLC but not a working travel vehicle to let us explore and thats just it. Most of us WANT TO EXPLORE.

Bioware you said that you read fan feedback and obviously the elevator music has effectively been 'nerfed' (was op to begin with, trufax), but turning this series into a consoles gamer's 'LOLBASHHEADOFFCONTROLLER' chucky cheese attraction couldnt possibly be the way to move forward. You're trying to satisfy two genres that are completely different from one another and I honestly think that it will be the ultimate downfall to this series. Some of us dont like to constantly lolshootcrapforhoursonend just like some people dont like to explore and like to rush through story with the 'lolmashAbuttonskipdialoguecommand'.

With that said im HOPING that theres enough content here to satisfy the rpg player. Im hoping I dont beat this game in 9 hours and throw it out the window where it can sit in my front lawn with diddy kong racing. Honestly, I have so much more points to make but I doubt anyone really cares to hear them and frankly im sick of typing. Ill still probably buy the game on release day like ive been doing with every other release from bioware. Im going on the reputation and my experience in the past. I do think though that if bioware will ever let me down that this will be it.

I'm not your buddy, friend.

I'm not your friend, guy.

Jesus lives on in these posts.

Does that mean that "God" is in fact, in the forums instead of the TV like Marilyn Manson said he/she/it was? lol

The thing that irritates me the most about debates like this? Whatever, ME2 actually ends up being, one thing that it will NEVER be is an fps. Y'know...because it's in third person?

You have every right to be concerned, and to be quite frank, it does seem that all of our fears that the game is a shooter have come to fruition. It will be a good game, but it won't be a RPG. I've already reclassified it as a Third-person shooter, and many sites have followed suit as well.

ME2 is still what ME1 was...a third person shooter/RPG hybrid. They have improved on both sides of its hybridization but have greatly focused public attention on the shooting/combat aspects to attract a larger group of fans to make more money. All I have seen is at the least acceptable to me and most is very impressive IMO. This is still, first and foremost, a RPG because of the choices and incredible variances of decision making that will be "listed" at the end - counting your ME1 decisions - prior to moving on to ME3.

Sure, some things were simplified but the talent idea and evolving ability actually means an amazing variance of styles will exist between top end soldiers, adepts, etc even though each is at least skilled in all the talents. We cannot personalize our companions nearly but can vary our own appearance in a broad spectrum of styles.

Maybe because I am missing my left arm and leg, I view things optimistically or "glass half full" but I am truly looking forward to this game more than any other i can remember in recent history.

Bioware is attempting to improve both the RPG and shooting elements of Mass Effect 2. From what I've seen, they're doing a grand job of it. Gameplay as potentially awesome as Borderlands but with an epic story, tons of dialogue, and player-made decisions? I'm baffled as to how somebody can be anything but excited to get their hands on this game.

They actually have shown some of the exploration. They didn't remove it. There was a video dedicated to it.

And why would they experiment with an RPG/Shooter hybrid?

Because a guy like me wants the action and cinematics of a shooter, with the story, customization, and setup of an rpg. To be honest, I think a hybrid between the two is far and away better than the pure "rpg" or pure "shooter".

They essentially take the best parts of an RPG, and the best parts of a shooter, and toss it in a blender.

Games TM

On the game’s opening sequence - “When the whole breathless ordeal drew a close and the game’s logo finally faded into view, we had to physically restrain ourselves from actually punching the air with the sheer excitement of it all.”

On combat – “The improved combat has been extolled in the pages of every magazine and website ad nauseam for a year or more and all that remains is for us to confirm that the rumours are true. If we were forced to choose, we’d take Commander Shepard over Nathan Drake or Marcus Fenix without even a second thought.

On exploration - “There seemed to be less planets you could actually land on and explore in Mass Effect 2, but those you could offered a more diverse crop of distractions: some based around combat, some not requiring a single bullet, some that played like self contained vignettes, some that spiralled off into multi-part crusades spanning the entire galaxy.”

Verdict - “Game of the year in January? Oh, go on then.” 10/10

Don't buy the game then you moron. Frankly Bioware doesn't give two ****s what the people who like the game so far think, and they sure as hell don't care about you. Do you want confirmation? Okay, all in-game dialogue will be superfluous to the plot, there will be no item customization, you will only be able to land on two planets, the codex has been removed. Have fun.

Bolded for emphasis. The exploration was improved to actually give you real things to do besides drive around like a tourist.
