Does anyone else feel cheated by the ending where you sacrifice yourself at the end of the game? I thought it was very anti-climatic and almost trains one not to do it again, no matter the ideal of lofty principles.

it seems to me the good noble Warden who basically single-handedly saves Ferelden is treated like crap afterwards. Fergus suddenly shows up after you are dead and buried, and takes over the now expanded family provinces. Where was he? What help did he give his little brother/sister?

And Alistair's speech about the Warden is pretty lame considering everything.

Clearly being a paragon is for suckers.

I have to disagree. I found the funeral scene very moving, especially if the you had a love interest in the game present (Leliana in my case). It just shows we can percieve things differently.

Well I did not romance anyone so maybe that makes a big enough material difference at ones own funeral. However Leli would not be my choice of girlfriend blubbing at my funeral. I think I'd prefer Morrigan since it would be out of character for her to do so, and I guess she dissapears well before any funeral.

Anyways why spend a whole game trying to stay alive only to kill yourself at the end. It's a little too "martyr syndrome" for me to stomach.

Anyways, next playthorugh i am agreeing to the pact with Morrigan and Fergus can pee off with his late appearing act, getting all the goodies :-)

Fergus did, in fact, say that he wished he had recovered from his wounds sooner.....

On the contrary, the ultimate sacrifice is very well done and not only extremely satisfying, but it's also the only ending I'd ever want. Fergus, yeah, it's a letdown that you don't get closure with him before the battle and never learn what happened to him if you don't chicken out. It would have kicked butt if he had shown up at the Landsmeet or afterwards or in Redcliffe, still in recovery from his wounds, for a very emotional reunion with his little sister/brother.

I disagree, for the most part. Atleast, female wardens in a romance with Alistair to me feel cheated.

His speech basically goes through the motions of a 12 year old boy, saying he thought they were going to be together forever, to a seeminglessly effortless and unemotional transiction to a 'Oh well. Thanks for dying for me. Toodles, have fun in the afterlife.'

However, the writing for Leliana was indeed epic. I was very moved by her reactions to my male wardens death.

Edit: I didn't mean it to sound like a dig to the writers, I thought the whole game was very well written, but I was mildly disappointed with my ending with Alistair. We basically spent an entire year travelling together, life threatning situations on a daily basis, basically everything a relationship -could- go through, for him not to care very much? Maybe it was because I made him King. It might of been a better ending if I put Anora on the throne :P

It would just be so kick-ass if he just burst in during the voting at the landsmeet going all; "HIGHEVER STANDS WITH THE GREY WARDENS!"

Who do you expect to take over the Province? You are dead and he is the only surviving heir.

I think they're more upset that he's not mourning your death more.. And didn't help in the battle more..

Think about the position Alistair is in. He's the leader of Ferelden now. He has to be strong, to make decisions, to lead the nation. Breaking down at the funeral of his love will not strengthen him in the eyes of the nation, and will, in fact, make him look like the weak king Anora believed he would be. Considering that it's a public event, I think he showed plenty of emotion. I imagine his reaction when he's alone in the castle afterwards is quite different.

You didn't actually talk to Fergus at the end, did you? Or maybe you can't in that ending.... He was badly injured and after he recovered enough to try and leave the wilds, it took him a while to get out. He was surrounded by darkspawn. He simply wasn't available to help. Besides, you're the Grey Warden, not him. His duty is as the Cousland heir. I haven't played the sacrifice ending, but most people seem to find it very affecting.

While not actually IN tears, Fergus DID sound like he was grieving over his Sister's death, the one time I heard it.

How the heck will RTO work if you chose the noble ending anyway?

Return to Ostagar can happen after you reach Lothering. It's Awakening that needs an alternate for the Ultimate Sacrifice.

ahh but thats the snafu in the whole thing ... what if the Architect somehow ressurects you and gives you some new snazzy super warden darkspawn powers!!

however the choices you make ... does your game save your finale when you save after it?

i know if it doesnt the only Canon endings can be Logain lives and dies or Morrigans Deal

WANT.

Plus, knowing that Fergus is alive would have bearing on how you would play out the Landsmeet... if you're not the last of your house, sacrificing yourself may make more sense.  So might marrying Alistair/CerseiAnora.

The problem with this (terrifically awesome) idea is that unless you had a sidequest first where you saved or helped him somehow, it would have no bearing on the five other Origins. :pinched:  And if there's a sidequest, no dramaitc Fergus entrance. :(

Could be done with some dialogue. Bodahn's heard rumors about the Teryn's ambush and murder with no know survivors. There could have been some dialogue at Redcliffe too, given that Bann Teagan was in Denerim after Ostagar and would have heard about Highever.

And yes, totally awesome idea.

Totally. So much win here......

The human noble is the only origin where you never, in game, get to run into people from your origin, or return to it, until the epilogue. (except Howe, but you end up killing him no matter what origin you play) Every other origin you run into old friends/foes/lovers/family. But as a human noble, you really are alone. It would have been nice to have been able to find Fergus.
