Why does is Shepard in Mass effect limited to just one love interest?

Because both those people are on the same ship. Rookie mistake. He needs to split his womens up by their respective ports of call.

Neither Ash nor Kaidan are interested in a threesome. All of the three characters are pushing for a lasting emotionally engaging relationship. Although I just found out that if you have only the first conversation with Ash and then don't pursue any conversations with anyone for the rest of the game, you still get the opportunity to sleep with her.

For Mass Effect 2 I am thinking I should pursue Miranda, and then encourage Subject Zero to come and 'take' me by force like she does in the trailer.

Perhaps this could also work with the asari and subject zero. The asari generally seem more liberal
